Frederic and Templado
"This was an unexpected and strange situation for me. I rather thought I knew how to train any horse. I'd had a lot of experience with horses and had learned to communicate well with them - or so I thought - and reckoned I was able to tell them what I wanted. ... I had done trick riding in lots of shows and successfully performed potentially dangerous acts, but here I was presented with a horse that did not respond to anything I asked of him. It was as if all my considerable experience was for nothing."
~ Cavalia Star Frederic Pignon - from Gallop To Freedom

Mesannie Wilkins
"Well, I think what you're doing is most unladylike. I know these are modern times, but a woman your age should stay at home.
Why, people all over the country are laughing at you." She paused, then asked, "Do you mind? My saying such things to you, I mean?"
"Not at all," I said. And then, since she was no spring chicken, I asked, "And why don't you stay at home?"
"I'm always at home. My husband and I live in the trailer. And I wouldn't be caught dead dressed like a man. Oh, do you have an extra postcard?"
She bought three. I figured she was a woman of high morals, and my opinion only lasted until late the next morning when the state police dropped by and arrested her and the husband. They were wanted for thievery, and the man was not her husband. I heard they had even stolen the trailer.

Clean Up CLOSEUP
SPRING CLEANING - (now SUMMER cleaning) continues at HoofPrints
My efforts to clear the warehouse (and my house- house) of accumulated oddball products continues to gain momentum. I've written about it before. The point continues to be, sometimes the space becomes more valuable than the items that are occupying it. So this is where most places say... "our loss is your gain!" Well, check out this super-cheap stuff and BUY IT. And your gain will be my gain, too. Because I need that space on the shelf.

The Half Price Page is here - check this often as they're one-of-a-kind things that will sell quickly and be replaced with whatever else starts to get on my nerves. I am currently going through a large stash of samples* - so many wonderful things, it's hard to choose just a handful for the catalog. And the rest have got to go! Only one of each available so act fast if you see something you like.

*A note about the samples - Someone made a comment on the HoofPrints Facebook page that the samples are free to me and implied should thus be priced accordingly. Just to set the record straight - I pay for almost every sample I acquire. Occasionally an author or publisher will send me a book unsolicited, but I prefer to buy these anonymously so if I review and don't think it is a good fit for the product line, I don't feel guilty about not including it.

NEW is Half Price PRINTS here - there are a lot of lovely prints languishing in drawers here that really should be hanging on folks' walls making them smile and beautifying their homes. Summer is NOT the time that people are inclined for "nesting" - that usually happens during the colder months when everyone's inside. But fall/winter is busy season here and I don't encourage print sales then - I don't have the extra time it takes to wrap these carefully for safe delivery. I've marked them way down now to sweeten the deal.

ALSO NEW is Half Price JEWELRY here - The more I got to digging, the more I found. Jewelry doesn't take up much room - suffice to say there is a LOT of lovely stuff that needs to find a new home. Then there's that whole problem I have with the beads. It's getting worse. Stay tuned for details.

Our Closeouts Page is here - it features items that are being phased out - still lots of good deals to be had there, too.
About Cavalia
Have you ever been to a play (or a Broadway show) and marveled at what it must have taken to assemble the actors, music backdrops and sets? And thought about the fact that all those folks out there are performing LIVE - in front of an audience - so there is no option to go back and redo if there is a mistake or someone forgets what they're supposed to be doing or saying? Imagine all that - with a bunch of HORSES thrown into the mix! Cavalia performs in an actual tent - all over the world - for spellbound audiences of all ages.

Cavalia was born of the dream of a few horse enthusiasts with a passion for performing. The production takes the art of dressage to new heights of kindness and respect, countering the traditional domination of horses by humans. During the two hour show, a group of artists; horses, riders, acrobats, singers, dancers and musicians - run, jump, dance, swing and twirl in their own way, enacting a glorious account of the history that unites humankind and the horse.

Cavalia Live! DVD
This was recorded in 2010, but it's new to HoofPrints this season. For the first time on stage, the equestrian arts are infused with unprecedented magic and emotion in Cavalia, an innovative multimedia extravaganza. Homage to the poignant history and fascinating bond between human beings and horses, Cavalia is a poem written in the language of sound, image and extraordinary performance. Blending dramatic visual effects, live music, dance and acrobatics with the bold presence of over sixty magnificent horses Cavalia raises the bar for spectacular entertainment in the 21st century. Regular price is #34.95, on sale for a limited time for $29.95 here

Gina's note: Almost all of this is footage of the live Cavalia show, blending liberty acts, acrobats, dressage and more. The music and choreography is awesome. At the very beginning, however, is footage of a foal being born and taking it's first wobbly steps. Not terribly graphic, but it does show the actual birth, so keep this in mind if young children are in your viewing audience.

Cavalia Products
Original Cavalia DVD
This DVD is dated 2005 - it was filmed when Frederic Pignon and Megali Delgado were touring with the show, along with their Andalusian stallion Templado. Sadly, Templado has passed on and Frederic and Megali are no longer performing with the show. To order click here

Cavalia - A Dream of Freedom Book
Beautiful color photographs on each page illustrate all facets of this amazing performance. Read about how Cavalia came to be, how they care for and train the horses, plan the shows, build the sets, etc. Every question you might have about how in the world they pull this off is answered in the book. Gallop to Freedom -
Training Horses With The Founding Stars of Cavalia
- If you've seen the DVDs, (or the live show) and wondered how in the world they get those horses to perform so brilliantly, show after show, then this is the book for you.
Gallop to Freedom cover In this profusely illustrated hardcover book, Frederic (a specialist in liberty and ground work) and Magali (a talented dressage rider at Grand Prix level) share the secrets of the relationships they have cultivated over the course of their lives with horses. They tell the story of Templado - the difficult and rebellious stallion who demanded they question all they had learned as horsemen and look at, in a whole new light, what it means to train horses. It was this tempestuous character that taught them that the process of building a relationship with a horse can be on more equal footing than most would dream possible.

It is with this lesson in mind that Frederic and Magali explain their Six Golden Principles. These include how you can become a "safe haven" (the most important being in your horse's life) while ensuring he gets the leadership he craves. And, how to establish acceptable limits of behavior, as well as respect, without ever succumbing to anger or using force. They describe how to read horse behavior so you can better understand and communicate with your equine partner as an individual. Plus, you'll see what it means to be patient and give your horse a say in his own training - and just how rewarding the results can be. To order click here

Gina's note - the four Cavalia products we sell all compliment each other:
The Original Cavalia DVD (2005)
shows you what the show is all about - highlights of the actual performance, interviews with the cast, backstage and behind the scenes candid stuff.
Cavalia Live! DVD (2010)
New performance acts under the directorship of Normand Latourelle, also includes footage of a training session with two horses and a tour of the stables
The Cavalia Book
has beautiful still shots from the show, and explains in detail how it came to be, and tells about the horses and the human actors.
Gallop to Freedom Book
goes into detail about how Frederic and Magali came to be the talented horsemen that they are - and how the Cavalia horses learn to perform on stage. It's full of wonderful and surprising facts - like the fact that Templado learned on his own to swirl his incredibly long mane, because it pleased the audience and caused them to applaud.

Turquoise Jacket closeup
Thermal Sherpa Lined Hood gets rave reviews
We are so excited about these details that I didn't picture here the embroidered horse logo that's on the left chest, but instead a closeup of the wonderful textures that this jacket has.

This heavy hooded sweatshirt could double for a coat on all but the coldest days. The outer shell is constructed of thermal fabric, and it's lined with plush sherpa throughout. The seams are fashioned so that a bit of sherpa peeks through, for a casual, two-tone effect. It's cotton/poly blend so no shrinking, and it washes and dries beautifully with no special attention (yes, we tested it). The neck is taped to hold it's shape and minimize scratchiness against your neck. Zipper and eyelets are metal, and the drawstring on the hood is beefy enough to stay tied. We've embroidered it with our wind horse logo. Sizing on this one is very generous - so those of you who were needing larger sizes than we normally offer may want to give this one a second look.

HoofPrints customer Jessica P. loves hers:
quotation mark left I received my jacket just 1 day after it was shipped! Awesome!! It looks sooo great and is absolutely the warmest, softest, and best jacket I have ever ordered! Thank you so much! I will be keeping the catalog that was sent to me and placing more orders as needed. I love this jacket! Have I said that before? Lol. Anyway...thanks again and remember you can't always make everyone happy, but you sure made me happy!!"

Regularly priced at $59.95 - we've marked this jacket down by $10. here

ABOUT THE COMPANY AND THIS NEWSLETTER
Farriers Greeting Cards was started by Gina Keesling in 1986 (in a very small way) to provide helpful promotional materials for farrier husband Rob. Along the way we became HoofPrints.com, too, adding a selection of fun horse and dog products geared toward women of a certain age. This newsletter is emailed to subscribers a few times a month, depending on how often I have something to share. Watch for special sales, interesting stories, uplifting quotes and more.

Viral marketing... it sounds bad, doesn't it?
You can ask my husband - a frequent topic around here is that of forwarded emails - and the psychology behind them - just WHAT prompts people to decide; "I am going to send this to everyone I know!".

We receive a lot of them. Some are pretty good, and others are dumb. Dumb in a myriad of ways...  Alarmist email rumors that have been around forever - that folks keep sending "just in case it's true" Pictures of someone's butt (or worse) - don't even get me started about the firecracker butt - but at least that one was timely when it showed up around July 4. Christian messages that are uplifting - until you get to the end and you're threatened "if you're not ashamed that you love Jesus, forward this - if you are, then delete." Pictures of cute puppies and kittens (awww)

I enjoy writing these newsletters - and sharing all this stuff with you all. But the fact is, it's also a way to help us stay connected with customers and sell products during the time between catalog mailings (which is only once a year) So I really, really like it when someone new stumbles upon the newsletter and is excited to "discover" our company and the products we offer.

In all my efforts to make the newsletter interesting and forward-worthy - it never occurred to me to JUST ASK you all to send it! Duh. Sometimes the obvious is elusive, I guess. So here goes - my request to ask you to forward our email newsletter to your horsey friends.  All we ask is that you please be judicious and only send to folks who might be interested. Otherwise we are no better than the "firecracker butt". Click to get started. (please note - using this form does NOT subscribe anyone to our list - it is a one-time only forward)
