7 Tips for Trustworthy Trust Accounting
- Sandra L. Adams

What is Trustworthy?  Is it Reliable? Perhaps when it comes to discussing trust accounts, it refers to "ethical" or "unimpeachable."

A trust account is different from other bank accounts. An attorney is the trustee for the funds belonging to a client. The attorney is responsible for safeguarding and protecting the client's money and/or other assets. There is no more fertile ground for ethical violations than trust account mismanagement.

On March 3 at 1 pm EST, Affinity Partner Sandy Adams will present a 30 minute FREE educational webinar, 7 Tips for Trustworthy Trust Accounting. Register Now!

Security Corner - Use 2-Factor Authentication for Better Protection on Your Online Accounts
- Fred Engel, Affinity Client Service Team
Most lawyers and law firm staff members have multiple web-based accounts. It could be a Google (Gmail) or Microsoft (Office 365) account for email or document storage, or it could be a Dropbox account for file synchronization. All such accounts have one thing in common - you open a web browser or other program and login using your user name and password.

Even a strong password is not enough protection from hackers who try to compromise your account. Consider using 2-factor authentication. This month we describe the what, why, and how of 2-factor authentication.

If you have questions about security of how to enable 2-factor authentication, contact us.
March Speaking Engagements
In addition to this month's webinars, the ABA TECHSHOW in Chicago, and the beginning of our Bootcamp series in New Hampshire, our Partners and Consultants will be speaking in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, and New Mexico.

Need a Speaker? We Deliver!
If your law firm, bar association, or other law-related organization needs a speaker on any law office technology or management issue, we deliver!

Affinity's Partners and Consultant have many decades of experience making informative and entertaining presentations to law firms and bar associations. We can tailor a presentation to meet your specific needs.

Here are two reactions to our speakers, Debbie Foster and Barron Henley:

"Debbie's seminar kept a room full of Legal Administrators and IT Managers engaged and entertained for a full hour, and we would gladly have stayed for more. Everyone took away something new that could immediately be put to use back in the office."

"Barron, that was probably the best hour of training I've ever seen and heard! You had some really great tips in there and you are so quick and accurate with your examples, it was well worth the hour's time! I've always been impressed by your knowledge on whatever topic I've called you about."

Contact Karen Scher to schedule an Affinity Partner or Consultant to speak to your firm or group.
Highlights from our Worldox Newsletter
Our February 2016 Worldox email newsletter has a great article describing the problems with image-only PDF files. PDFs become truly useful only when they are full-text searchable. This requires doing an OCR (optical character recognition) on the PDF file. Doing this one file at a time is very cumbersome.

The article explains the most common sources of image-only PDFs and suggests a great solution for automatic OCR'ing of image-only PDFs saved into your Worldox system - Symphony OCR from Trumpet

MS Word Tip of the Month - Number All Pages Except the First
We often do not want to page number the first page but want to number second and subsequent pages. Another example would be a letter in which you want no page numbering on the first page because it will be printed on letterhead, but you would like to add a header on all subsequent pages. This month we show you how to set that up.

-April 27 and June 10

Harris. It was a huge success. (If you missed it, you can see it here.) Remember to mark your calendar and register for the two remaining webinars on April 27, and June 10.

Until then, be sure to read Steve Best's article on why Outlook or any Personal Information Manager (PIM) is not enough for effective practice management.

Meet the Team - Jose Sepulveda
Affinity Consulting loves to help improve the lives of our customers. We thought you might enjoy getting to know about the lives of some of our team members who help make that happen. Each month we will feature another member of the Affinity Team. Get to know us!

Meet Jose Selpulveda, Process Management Consultant for the Default Services Team. Jose joined Affinity in 2011 after being a part of the annual CaseAwareŽ Bootcamp event provided by the Default Services team. He provided expert presentations on key industry topics when Affinity offered him the chance to join the Affinity Team. "I couldn't really say no to the opportunity," says Jose.

"I love my job because I started at the bottom working as a grunt in a large firm copy room then made my way through being a paralegal in many different departments. I hated knowing I was doing something inefficiently and began to tear apart the process, attempting to change things internally. When I am able to fix problems and involve technology or implement new ways of doing things, it puts a smile on my face," adds Jose. "I like making people happy, making their jobs easier, more efficient and knowing I was there at some point doing this person's job using carbon paper or a typewriter. Seeing the evolution gives me a huge sense of satisfaction knowing that I helped this firm evolve."
