Disability Guardianship and Trust Training:
Content geared toward agencies interested in learning about provider responsibilities and options

The training, intended for senior and mid-level managers, will focus on an agency's guardianship responsibilities and how to problem solve guardianship and trust issues from a provider perspective.

Attendees will gain knowledge regarding the legal processes, requirements of new laws, and options for those served.

Presenters (listed further below) will provide the following content:

  • Overview of guardianship and special needs trust
  • Review of provider legal implications
  • Case examples of how providers offering trustee and guardianship services respond to and fix problems when they occur. You will learn how to effectively work with a payee (MassHealth) and make changes, if needed, in a consumer's plan. Attendees will also learn what to do if a person is "kicked off" MassHealth causing loss in services, such as health care and day and residential services.
  • Other items to be reviewed include: understanding a consumer's needs and preferences, power of attorney, health care proxy, do not resuscitate (DNR/DNI), and medical orders for life sustaining treatment (MOLST) process

There will also be an opportunity for a question and answer session and time to network with your colleagues.
