Sen. Richard Moore (D-Uxbridge), who has long championed the cause of people with disabilities, as well as their families, and the workers who care for them, has been named "Senator of the Year" by the Association of Developmental Disabilities Providers (ADDP). Senator Moore was presented this honor at the Kennedy-Donovan Center in Milford, 171 Main Street, 3rd floor, on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
Sen. Richard Moore has been a leader in championing health care for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ensuring that health care issues important to people living with disabilities have been front-and-center in Senate deliberations, particularly with regards to funding programs and services that are essential to the life and well-being of tens of thousands of people living with disabilities.
Senator Moore has also been very active on the national level, having been honored by his national colleagues when he was selected to serve as the President of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
Senator Moore has served as Senate President Pro Tempore since early 2013 and is Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Rules. In his leadership capacity as Senate President Pro Tempore, Senator Moore assists the Senate President and the Senate Majority Leader in the running of the Senate and presides during sessions when the Senate President is temporarily absent. He is serving his ninth term in the Massachusetts Senate and represents 14 Southern Central Massachusetts towns in both the counties of Worcester and Norfolk.
"Sen. Moore has long been a champion of the causes of people living with disabilities and a strong advocate on behalf of the working men and women of the Commonwealth" said Gary Blumenthal, the President and Chief Executive Officer of ADDP. "He is uniformly respected by his colleagues and is always willing to help his constituents who need assistance in navigating the complexities of state government." Blumenthal said.
Prior to Moore's election to the Massachusetts Senate in 1996, Senator Moore served in the Clinton Administration as Associate Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Washington, D.C. for two years, served nine terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and was selectman of his home town of Hopedale, Massachusetts for eight years. Senator Moore also served as president of the Massachusetts Selectmen's Association.
The Framingham-based ADDP is committed to ensuring, strengthening and promoting the viability of community-based organizations that support people with developmental disabilities and their families.
