Our Deepest Sympathies

to

Barbara and Dick Hyland

for the loss of their Greyhound, Prince.   Prince joined the VPP in 2007 and was a regular at St Anthony's.     Additionally, Prince was a member of the EJGH pet program.

Denise and Chet Mehurin

lost their wonderful Daisy. Daisy became a member of VPP in 1997 and remained a very active volunteer until her retirement in 2010.

Both of these dogs took their therapy work very seriously! They will be greatly missed by the many hearts they touched.

Greetings!

Summer is almost over. It's so hard to believe how quickly the time passes. Our visits will start up again in September and I know our 4 legged friends will be eagerly received by those we visit.

I spent some time sitting in a hospital room this summer. It wasn't much fun. I had hours to think about how I would have welcomed a visit from a fuzzy face. It really gave me a new perspective on our visits. I always knew our efforts were appreciated, but now I have a clear understanding as to why. The long hours of watching the clock tick way, praying, waiting...it can take a toll on family as well as the patient. The opportunity to snuggle something warm, to kiss a cold nose, would have been a great stress reliever; a chance to forget about where I was and why I was there, even if just for a few minutes. I think now I'll enter rooms with a whole new insight and a real appreciation for the gift we bring.

Speaking of entering rooms....it's time to complete your visit schedules from September to December. The schedule is posted on the web site. Please submit your schedule to Claire by August 15th. And if you have not yet sent in your dues for this year, what are you waiting for????  They were due by August 1st!

Enjoy the last few weeks of the unbearable heat. Stay inside and get organized for the fall. Plan on a wonder year of "Bringing love and leaving smiles".
With thanks for all you do,

Lee Gaffney
President

About the Visiting Pet Program

The Visiting Pet Program is an all volunteer 501 (C)(3) non-profit animal assisted therapy organization serving Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes.

For the past 25 years, the volunteers of the VPP have lived up to their motto of "Bringing Love and Leaving Smiles" to the residents of nursing homes and hospitals.

Our literacy project, Reading to Rover, offers young readers the opportunity to practice their reading aloud skills to the gentle therapy dogs.

If you would like to make a donation to the Visiting Pet Program, please click on the button below or mail your check to 5831 S. Johnson Street, New Orleans, LA 70125. Please note if your donation is in memory of a person or a pet. We will be happy to send an acknowledgment of your donation to the family. Please include the name and address to send the acknowledgment. Because we are a 501(C)(3) organization, your donation is tax deductible. We are an all volunteer organization. Your donation goes directly to the support of our mission.
Thank you
