Youth Athletic Field (YAF): The draft bill creates a new funding stream for the Youth Athletic Facilities (YAF) Program administered by the Recreation and Conservation Office. View the comparison of current law and the draft bill. We also need your examples and real world information on field shortages including photos and what this means to your communities in order for WRPA to prepare our advocacy efforts to re-instate this funding source this session. Please send by January 7 to levy4@msn.com and cc britk@wrpatoday.org.
Joint Select Committee on Junior Taxing Districts: This committee has been evaluating the question of whether the Legislature should consolidate any junior taxing districts. We are very pleased to report that the Committee will NOT be recommending any forced consolidations of special districts!
State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) Town Hall:
Current question: New research shows that for adults (18 and over) in Washington, between 2006 and 2012: Nature-based recreation activities, such as backpacking, primitive camping, showshoeing, horseback riding, and climbing generally are increasing while activities that depend on built facilities, such as soccer, baseball, rollerblading, football, and boat camping generally are decreasing. What do you think the reasons are?
