Meet With Your Legislators Before Session Starts: (tip of the month)
Before session is the best time to meet with your legislators. Its the perfect opportunity to position yourself as a park and recreation resource while sharing your community needs and the statewide WRPA Legislative Agenda.
State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP):
On November 29 the SCORP advisory committee met at RCO headquarters with Responsive Management Executive Director, Mark Duda, to review the results of the general population survey. Kurt Dahmen, David Erickson, Kathy Kravit-Smith, Leslie Betlach, Dona Wuthow, Sharon Clausen, Paul Whitemarsh (and remotely) Paul Simmons, Chris Hoppe were the WRPA members present on the 20+ person committee. Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) Project List: Below you will find a link to a list of 175 worthy projects that are seeking funding for in the upcoming legislative session. Despite Washington's budget woes, the state capital construction budget will be larger next year. The Coalition and WRPA are advocating for $90 million in bond dollars.

Big Check Presentation
Mount Vernon, WA
The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office recognized Mount Vernon at a special presentation last Wednesday for its outstanding project to build a waterfront trail. The project to build the Skagit Riverwalk, a trail which runs along the Skagit River in the city's historic downtown, was the top ranked project in the trails category of the statewide grant program, the WWRC. The city also successfully competed for a second state grant in the Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account program. Together, the two grants provided more than $1.28 million in state funding. More |
