Adult News

As fall settles in, grab one of these great stories to ease the passing of summer. We're including four new novels we are excited about, along with a few of last year's bestsellers - now out in paperback.

Whether you are looking for something brand new or something you may have missed last year, we hope one or more of these strike your interest!

Nutshell by Ian McEwan

Read this if you want to be charmed, amused, provoked and enthralled. Ian McEwan is a storyteller of monumental proportions, and Nutshell is up there with the best of his novels. With a fetus as a narrator bringing sly observant wisdom and wit to the life he is about to enter, this book is fantastical, yes, but mostly just irresistible! - Roxanne

Signed Copies are available for a limited time.

Commonwealth by Ann Patchett

Patchett may have delivered her finest novel yet, if you are to believe the reviews and buzz around the store. Commonwealth tells the five decade story of the Keating and Cousins children, and what happens when a famous author co-opts their lives for the plot of his next novel.
A novel of history, perspective, love, and responsibility,
all in Patchett's signature style.  - Andrew

Signed Copies are available for a limited time.

Razor Girl by Carl Hiaasen

No one can top Carl Hiaasen for depicting Florida insanity.
This time we have wild insurance scams, a redneck reality show, a down on his luck detective (there has to be a good guy) and, of course, giant Gambian rats!

It's always a gleeful, wild ride with Carl!  - Julie

Signed Copies are available for a limited time.

A Gentleman in Moscow
by Amor Towles

I believe A Gentleman In Moscow is without dispute a modern day masterpiece. Towles uses exquisite language to tell the story of Count Rostov, a charming and witty "man of intent", who is confined to a fabulous hotel in Moscow for all his days. But that doesn't stop the count from living a sumptuous and meaningful life and he, in turn, graciously affects all the lives around him.

I can't praise this book enough. Read it and be happy!
- Mary T

Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff

Complex characters and beautiful language set the stage for this emotional story of a marriage over decades- the ups, the downs, their hopes and dreams- some dashed, some realized. Struggling artists in a sometimes struggling marriage wondering Kids or No Kids? Are these true friends or enemies? And what of family with ulterior motives?

Just when you think it's heading one way, Groff hits you with the FURIES half of the book. Brilliant and by far one of my new all-time favorites. - Liz

Purity by Jonathan Franzen

We rely on writers to help us make sense of the world we live in. Franzen has always led the way in providing insight into families and society. If he has lost his sense of humor with Purity, it is with good reason.

Franzen is appropriately worried about our future in his most compelling work yet. - Peggy

The Tsar of Love and Techno by Anthony Marra

Brilliance once again! If you read A Constellation of
Vital Phenomena, you must read this! (If not--read both!)

I love how Anthony Marra not only writes these Russian short stories--spanning hundreds of years--but he finds ways, sometimes extremely subtle, to weave a story in itself between them!

Some of his stories are heart-breaking,
many are thought-provoking! - Lori

Cracking open a brand new book is especially satisfying while snuggled up in your favorite reading spot on a chilly autumn day. For me, the best part of my day is the moment I can curl up with my son for story time and watch his little face light up every time mommy opens a new book.
