Although Colson Whitehead puts his own "spin" on what the underground railroad was (he has real tracks, stations, etc.), he pulls you into the dark and evil world of slavery. His writing is superb and he establishes the horror of this time frame in American history. I found it heart wrenching yet page turning over and over! - Lori
