The last of the big summer books are here. Don't fret, though. We still have at least a month of solid sunshine and beach time left!

Whether you want ancient, giant spiders, an actual underground railroad, or the latest yarn from pros like Dave Eggers or Liane Moriarty, we've got something new waiting for you. Come on in and check them out.

Or, if you are shopping on our websitefor a limited time we are offering 99-cent per-item shipping for online orders (in the Continental USA)!

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
Oprah Book Club Pick!
Although Colson Whitehead puts his own "spin" on what the underground railroad was (he has real tracks, stations, etc.), he pulls you into the dark and evil world of slavery. His writing is superb and he establishes the horror of this time frame in American history. I found it heart wrenching yet page turning over and over! - Lori

The Hatching by Ezekiel Boone
Got arachnophobia?? Start reading this exciting action novel and there will be no escaping it! An aggressive outbreak of 10,000-year-old spiders in Peru causes world leaders to drop nukes and and the entire planet to go into panic mode. The Hatching is crazy good fun for all types of readers! It's not literary fiction, but it's a blast to read and should become a movie! - Mary T.

Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty
Upcoming Event, 9/24 at 7pm!
Liane Moriarty strikes again with a page turning, "can't read it fast enough" thrill ride that examines old friends and new secrets. Truly Madly Guilty also explores the age old adage "hindsight is 20/20" and asks the gut wrenching question: what if we hadn't gone? Loved it! - Jill

Heroes of the Frontier by Dave Eggers
Rumbling down the Alaskan coastline in a beat-up clunker of an RV, affectionately known as The Chateau, Josie and her two children are on the lam-- well, not really. But Josie is trying to get as far away from Ohio as one can get without needing a passport. Plagued by wildfires, a harrowing past, and a uniquely American madness, the deeper into the wilderness they drive, the deeper Josie must dig into what inspired her need for adventure. Fantastic, thought provoking, and eerily relatable. - Jaclyn

kidsKids and Young Adult News

As Summer draws to a close, it's hard not to think about the start of school right around the corner.

We've all heard about the dreaded "summer slide" where students can lose ground on many of the skills they left school with in June. The good news is it's not too late to start clearing the cobwebs out of our kids' heads in time for school!
  • Be sure your child is reading something every day. Magazines, books, exhibit information at museums, recipes - it all counts!
  • Find fun ways to keep math on the brain. Playing math games, following a recipe for cooking and beating your time on a math facts worksheet are painless ways to keep your child thinking about math.
  • Make writing meaningful! Set up a mailbox in your house where family members can write and deliver notes to each other. Get some fun stationery and have your child write letters to grandparents, cousins, teachers, and friends. Letters can be fun and short, and who doesn't love getting mail?
Here are some books to help your kids get ready for school:

Stay sharp with these workbooks:

Picture Books:
by Judy Sierra and G. Brian Karas
by Alice Kuipers
MOVE! by Lolly Hopwood and YoYo Kusters
