West Town Food Truck Social & Art Walk, Sept 30 - Oct 1
The West Town Food Truck Social is marrying up with the West Town Art Walk to create a one-of-a-kind neighborhood wide food and art festival, September 30 and October 1.  The dual event gives guests a taste of some of Chicago's best mobile eats with a side of Chicago's most tantalizing original art.  The 6th annual West Town Art Walk celebrates art in all forms - visual, musical, performance, culinary, fashion - and more.  During this free Friday and Saturday event, attendees can enjoy whatever art forms they like most from Chicago artists showcased within 35 West Town shops, businesses, restaurants, and galleries. Other event highlights include: Art in the Park in Eckhart Park, Concerts by ChiME, Hands on art activities for families with Intuit Art Museum, live art making, a new Cool Car Show, and participating retailers pouring free seasonal beer tastings!  This year's West Town Art Walk will be held in conjunction with the return of the West Town Food Truck Social.  Organizers are encouraging participants to "snack-n-stroll" through West Town and enjoy innovative art with four-wheeled delicacies - along with tunes spun by local record stores - all in one spot!  The Food Truck Social is a free street party starring 17 Illinois Food Truck Owner Association-affiliated trucks. On September 30 and October 1, art-starved bellies are invited to discover delicious offerings from a curated lineup of food trucks.

Homes for Heroes September Savings Program, Fall - Winter 2016
Homes for Heroes is a national program dedicated to providing extraordinary savings to heroes (members of the military, police officers, firefighters, healthcare workers, EMS and teachers) who provide extraordinary services to our community each and every day, when they buy or sell a home. 25% of your Realtor's gross commission is given directly back to you and savings will depend on the sales price of the home. For example, a house with a $300,000 sales price could qualify for at least $1,875 in credits and discounts from your participating realtor.
Exsanguination: A process of mourning and cleansing.
Performance by Roberto Sifuentes in collaboration with jonCates.
October 8th 7pm - 8:30
Durational "Afterparty" 8:30-?

ROBERTO SIFUENTES is an interdisciplinary performance artist. His work fuses highly charged cultural issues with a wild pop culture aesthetic. From homeland security to extreme reality television - from video games to military training - from fetishism to evangelism - Sifuentes creates interactive performance installations where his personas wind their way through psycho/sexual/political/ universes. The result is a cinematic style that uses satire, humor, and spectacle to peel away the viewer's protective layers and reveal society's desires, fears and obsessions.

*Note: this show could be offensive to some, as it includes the process of blood-letting.

The Color of Life
October 1 - 29, 2016 with an opening reception with the artist Saturday, October 1, 6-10pm.
Vertical Gallery is proud to present "The Color of Life", our second solo exhibition with Minneapolis-based artist Greg Gossel, featuring over 50 new original works. Continuing to explore his signature mixed-media pop aesthetic, Gossel debuts a new series of letter-based works and wood panel collages. Pulp noir and silver age romance comics are juxtaposed with anonymous family photos, vintage dime store packaging, and children's coloring books; creating a fragmented visual memory of times gone by. These images are applied to wood panels with silkscreen ink, acrylic paint, and enamel; only to be physically cut apart and reconstructed in rhythmic geometric patterns referencing the works of Frank Stella and Jasper Johns. The end result is a new series of vibrant, heavily layered compositions that offer a window into the joys and sadness that make up the colors of life.

Axiom, October 7 - December 4, 2016
"Axiom" presents three artists rooted in craftsmanship who conceptually challenge the expectations of their discipline. "Axiom" addresses the commonalities that link their work, either through shared propositions as well as assumptions around the nature of craft. Frank Connet, Lialia Kuchma and Anne McGinn hold skill and materials in high regard and they acknowledge the historic narrative that has defined their discipline. Nevertheless, their thinking about their work pushes across the border of the imagined, across materials, into refined and distinctive artistic voices.  "Axiom" is curated by Doug Stapleton, Associate Curator of Art with the Illinois State Museum Chicago Gallery.

Kozyuk comments, "Being an observer first, much of my inspiration comes from the world around us. When traveling I find myself appreciating all that the new landscapes have to offer. Recently, my time has been spent exploring different traditions and cultures. From the vibrant colored powders thrown during India's Holi festival to the rich pigments seen in Native Ukrainian and Native American costumes. I create pieces that offer an abstract approach to these and other wondrous occurrences in our world.
