The next public session, which is part of Step 1 of 5, is the September Design Charette (6:30 to 8:30 pm at OutCold, 2848 W Chicago Ave). On this evening, community members will come together, work in small teams and come up with their own projects, developments, and solutions to problems in previous workshops. This is the time to take all the cumulative ideas that have been expressed over the last 4 workshops, and design something with a team that you think could change West Town for the better. Come with your ideas and walk away with a design! We want to see how you envision West Town! Visit the website for more info or register HERE.

Opening Reception / Kevin Maginnis: Spun, Sept 24
It's the Opening Reception for Kevin Maginnis' "Spun" on Saturday, September 24th, from 7-9pm. What is the presence of a gallery? What would happen if the designed environment were modified to undermine its function? How does this change the presence, and more importantly, what becomes of artwork enveloped in this space?
"Spun" looks to amplify the gallery's presence as object and witness by recreating the surface of the gallery out of non-architectural materials, then flipping this "fake" gallery space by 180 degrees and rotating it by 30 degrees. Here the ephemeral is made solid, and the culminating result is to experience the notion of what an exhibition is as a whole, fresh and anew. The exhibition will feature work by Nelly Agassi, Lise Haller Baggesen, Banrei, Erik Beehn, David Derish, Assaf Evron, Nicholas Frank, Julia Haw, Brad Killam, Shaina Lund, Sabina Ott, Roland Miller, Tommy Mishima, Matt Morris, John Riepenhoff, Tony Tasset, JS Wagner, CD Wu, B. Wurtz, and Rodrigo Lara Zendejas.

Matthew Rachman Gallery
1659 W Chicago Ave
www.matthewrachman.com
Opening: I Saw You At My Funeral, Sept 10
Matthew Rachman Gallery will host an opening reception Saturday, September 10 from 6 - 9 pm, for its upcoming exhibition, "I Saw You At My Funeral," featuring new works by artist Mike Egan, at which the artist will be in attendance. Hailing from the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Egan recalls a fascination with both art and with death, from a young age. Later in life, his fascination with mortality led to a career working in funeral homes, where he was constantly surrounded by death and mourning. He started painting not only the stories of those who have passed, but the stories of those left behind after one's passing; the mourners, the lovers, the hurt and the relieved. His works are visual anecdotes; capturing sepulchral moments in time, presented to the viewer with whimsy and wit. The new paintings Egan created for "I Saw You at My Funeral" are a look at his continued obsession with the idea of life and death. In light of recent world events and the way they are portrayed by the media, the subject matter is more important to him now than ever before. "There are so many tragic shootings and acts of violence in the world and it is constantly spoon fed to us through the media. These paintings act as a reminder to me that there are so many people to say 'goodbye' to, and that we must not forget them." The exhibition will run September 10 - November 4, 2016.
