Dan BerriganIn these first days after Dan Berrigan's death, every aspect of the work for peace and justice seems to be imbued with his spirit. In preparing this month's e-Update, I imagine all of the people who are reading this because of their commitment to nonviolence and peacemaking -- a commitment they (perhaps you!) were brought to because of an encounter with Dan, at a protest, a retreat, in his books or poetry... I know that that encounter is part of my story and part of the reason I am here doing this work at Pax Christi USA. Like many of you I imagine, all that keeps coming to my lips is this: Thank you Dan.

Upon hearing of the passing of Fr. Daniel Berrigan, S.J. this past weekend, Sr. Patty Chappell, SNDdeN, Executive Director of Pax Christi USA, stated, "Daniel Berrigan was a man faithful to the transformative values of living out the Gospel. Until his very death, he modeled for all a spirituality of nonviolence and peacemaking. Pax Christi USA mourns the passing of Dan Berrigan, one of the most widely admired peacemakers of our time. His life and witness have inspired thousands to learn and embody the nonviolence at the heart of Jesus teachings. We give thanks and celebrate the life of Dan, a Pax Christi USA Teacher of Peace."
