Feast of the Holy Family

 

Genesis 15:1-6; 21:1-3 | Hebrews 11:8, 11-12, 17-19 | Luke 2:22-40

"By faith..." (Hebrews 11, beginning of verses 8, 11, and 17)

 

Faith, not fear, should rule the lives of Christians. Most of the evil perpetrated by individuals and nations finds it roots in fear. Yet the history of God's relationship with Israel repeatedly demonstrates that faith conquers all. Abraham listened to God's counsel and lived a fruitful life of faith rather than an isolating, limiting life of fear.

 

Mary and Joseph belonged to an extended family of faith. Faithful to the tradition and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Mary and Joseph took Jesus to consecrate him to God....
