Greetings!,

Former Pax Christi USA policy director Jean Stokan asked that we share with you two opportunities to join delegations to Latin America:

Delegation to Honduras (Dec. 6-12, 2012). A religious human rights/solidarity delegation is being organized with the help of the Friendship Office (sponsoring organization of the Honduras Accompaniment Project), from Dec. 6-12. Its purpose is to learn about the social, economic, religious and political realities in Honduras and to lend moral support to faith partners, human rights defenders and civil society organizations who have experienced the repression or been targeted for their work with impoverished communities. It will include an advocacy meeting at the U.S. Embassy.

The delegation will begin in San Pedro Sula and conclude in Tegucigalpa and is geared for religious congregations with members in-country, but is open to all. Cost estimate is $920 plus airfare. For more information, please contact Jean Stokan at [email protected] or Sister Carol Ries, SNJM at [email protected]

Delegation to El Salvador (Nov. 29-Dec. 6, 2012). SHARE-El Salvador is organizing another delegation to commemorate the anniversary of the  martyrdom of the 4 U.S. Churchwomen (Nov. 29-Dec. 6). SHARE will be giving LCWR an award in El Salvador at the site of the martyrdom. LCWR is also co-sponsoring and inviting its leadership members, but the delegation is open to anyone. A unique aspect of this particular delegation is that SHARE is arranging to have a forum in country with Salvadoran and U.S. people of faith-to reflect together on the recent challenges to women religious and hopes for our Church today. For more information contact [email protected] or call 510-848-8487.

Earlier this month,  PCUSA  endorsed a letter from the "Shoulder to Shoulder: Standing with American Muslims, Upholding American Values" campaign and the United Methodist women calling for the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority and Vincent Gray, mayor of the District of Columbia to take action to support community over hate. We ask that you prayerfully consider supporting the action below:

TAKE ACTION: An anti-hate coalition of 127 organizations is asking all people of conscience to contact the Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA) and ask that it help mitigate the negative impact of anti-Muslim advertisements now on display in D.C.-area metro stations. The ads strongly suggest that Arab or Muslim opponents of Israel's policies are "savages." They are sponsored by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, a designated hate-group led by Pamela Geller.
