Libation # 225:
Samuel Adams
1722-1803
The Roots of Betrayal
"He who is void of virtuous Attachments in private Life, is, or very soon will be void of all Regard for his Country. There is seldom an Instance of a Man guilty of betraying his Country, who had not before lost the Feeling of moral Obligations in his private Connections."

Letter to James Warren (4 November 1775), reprinted in The Writings of Samuel Adams, ed. Harry Alonzo Cushing, vol. III (G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1907), p. 236

The betrayal of our country is being documented daily and is broadcasted to our homes on nearly any news channel we choose to watch. Yet the scariest part is not the betrayal itself, but the general blindness to it that pervades the society.

For those who are just now waking up to the treason, it is not new. The roots of betrayal reach all the way to the serpent in the garden. But the serpent certainly delivered a large dose of venom into the national bloodstream when it struck at prayer in public schools in the early 60's. Removing the Author of virtue from the classroom was a huge blow aimed at severing the attachments to moral obligation. And now, a little more than 50 years later, the severing of virtuous attachments continues with our President normalizing transgender activity and mandating that schools allow children to use bathrooms of the opposite sex!  Thankfully there are a few state governors who have stated they will ignore this mandate. Hopefully more will follow. John Adams also said,

"If ever the Time should come, when vain & aspiring Men shall possess the highest Seats in Government, our Country will stand in Need of its experienced Patriots to prevent its Ruin. There may be more Danger of this, than some, even of our well disposd Citizens may imagine."

-Letter to James Warren, 24 October 1780

What timeless words! Our nation is in peril. Traitors, vain and aspiring men void of virtuous attachments and all regard for our country, have risen to the highest seats in government. Experienced patriots, those who still possess virtuous attachments to the King of Kings, must appeal to heaven and join the next great awakening that will prevent the ruin of our nation.

For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is
our king; he will save us.
