The quote above speaks particularly to the days in which we now live. If we cannot restore the foundation of godly virtues in the people in greater measure than they now have it, it won't matter who gets elected or what legislation is passed. We will only trade one tyrant for another and liberty will perish. Psalm 11 holds an important message for us at this time
Psalms 11:1-2 (NKJV)
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain"? For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
In the face of a crumbling culture and an enemy that is taking aim at the upright, the temptation to cut and run, like a bird fleeing to the mountains, is strong. But we must not allow that fearful attitude into our soul. Our trust in the Lord!
Psalms 11:3 (NKJV)
If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?
Yet we are rhetorically reminded that, without solid foundations, we are indeed helpless to make a difference. We must restore the foundations, even as Isaiah has said, "Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In" (Isaiah 58:12 (NKJV).
Psalms 11:4 (NKJV)
The Lord is in His holy temple, The Lord's throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.
Do not fear. The Lord is still on His throne waiting to show His strength. As for us, we are being tested. The eyes of the Lord are scanning the whole earth, that He might show Himself strong on behalf of those who pass this test (see 2 Chron 16:9).
Psalms 11:5-6 (NKJV)
The Lord tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates. Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup.
The wicked are not a threat to God, or to us. Our own fear and lack of foundational fortitude is our only threat. Therefore let us arise, walk in uprightness, and restore the age-old foundations in our own lives and in the culture. The Lord will help us!
Psalms 11:1-2 (NKJV)
7 For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.
