"Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair but manifestations of strength and resolution."

Imagine for a moment, , you are walking down an aisle at your grocery store.  One of the clerks stocking shelves glances over at you, smiles, and says "Hi, how are you today?"  How do you react?  Do you scowl at him, mumble "fine" back, and rush away?  Do you look him in the eye and respond with a simple "I'm well, thank you"?  Now, imagine you are moving farther down the aisle.  How do you think the store clerk is reacting to your response?

It's sometimes hard in our busy lives to remember that our actions have effects that last even after we leave a situation.  How many times each day does that same person (or your toll booth operator, bank teller, or any other person working their daily job) ask the same question to people that pass by?... and how many times does he get brushed off?  Think about how you would feel in that situation?  Invisible? Overlooked?  By now, you should see how easy it is to lift someone's spirits and make them feel good simply by acknowledging them and being polite?

"Making one person smile can change the world - maybe not the whole world, but their world."

The best part about treating people with respect and kindness is the immediate ripple effect YOU create!  When you treat those around you nicely, you feel happier for being a good person... The person you treated with common courtesy feels happier... and they, in turn, project that happiness on to the people around them... and so on, and so on... and it doesn't even take any extra time out of your day.  Look at all of the good feelings you generated just by being polite like grandma told you from day one!

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.  How small, random acts of kindness create a boomerang effect that not only makes others feel good... but YOU are rewarded, too !

Here's a secret most people never realize... Simply being polite can help you get anything you want! People WANT to do things for others that make them feel good about themselves.

Now, go ahead and make my day!

Until next time! :)
