Message from the President

Chamber Member,

Love is in the air!  Make sure to call your local Chamber members, Omega Enterprise, Floral Expression, and Safeway to make a dazzling flower arrangement for your loved ones. Ton of Fun will also have perfect balloon arrangements to go with your perfect bouquet of flowers.

First, I would like to thank everyone who attended our Business After Hours at the Kodiak Athletic Club. Lindsay had a great turnout and Mill Bay Coffee and Pastries had a wonderful spread of food and desserts.

This month's Business After Hours will be hosted by Alaska Airlines on Thursday, February 27th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center. Andrew and the Alaskan Airlines team always host a wonderful event.

The Chamber has contracted with Tons of Fun Entertainment for the 2014 Crab Festival. The staff continues to work with potential vendors to bring more activities to the Midway.  Pre-sale tickets are now available at the Chamber: 30 tickets for $25.00. The tickets only include the activities from Tons of Fun Entertainment.  Many local businesses will start selling the tickets in March.

We also encourage local organizations, non-profits, and community groups to take this opportunity to hold an activity or event on the Midway.  With Golden Wheel's absence this year, local organizations have a great fundraising opportunity at Crab Festival.  Please contact the Chamber if you are interested in having an activity or event on the Midway at 486-5557.

Lastly, please plan to attend our Chamber Annual Dinner on February 21st at the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center.  Please call the Chamber to make your reservation. The theme this year is Kodiak Casino Royale.  We look forward to seeing you at this event.

Greg Deal

President

Kodiak Lions Club Celebration

With the Good Friday Quake Began the Kodiak Lions

The Kodiak Lions will be celebrating "50 years" of making Kodiak a better place to live on April 5th. Starting first with the move of Afognak Village to what is now, named after them, Port Lions, they have never let the moss grow on any of their projects.

Arm wrestling tournaments, The Biker Ball, music festivals, oyster feeds, raft races, soap box derbies, and a hundred projects ranging from Coats for Kids and Vision Care year after year is what it's all about.

To "Aid the weak and right the wrong" is their credo.

Lions Past International President, Al Brandel, will join the Kodiak Club April 5th  for a banquet to recognize "the difference the club has made" in the community in 50 years.

There will be a 20 page insert in the Kodiak Daily Mirror to culminate their story from 1964-2014. They are looking for stories, testimonies, and pictures of priceless moments, and, if possible, support of your business with an ad. We are also looking for good Lions for the next 50 years!! More to come in the next issue!

Call Doc Myers, (907) 539-2010, for more information.
