2014 Summer Reading Program
June 9 - August 16
Experiment with reading and fun this summer!

June is here, and it's all about Summer Reading! This year's theme is science, with over 100 free programs for all ages being held at the Main Library and all branches. Plus, prizes for reading and participating! The program runs from June 9th through August 16th, with kick off events on June 13 & 14. Sign up online to log time spent reading, having a book read to you, and attending library programs. For every 500 minutes you log, you will win a prize, many of which have been donated by local businesses. Thanks to the Friends of the Worcester Public Library, you will also have a chance to win an iPad Mini at the end of the program if you log at least 1,500 minutes (or just around 20 minutes a day). Let's keep the summer reading "slide" at bay!

We invite children (ages 0-12) to Fizz! Boom! Read!
Teens (ages 13-17) can Spark a Reaction
Adults (ages 18 and up) can explore Literary Elements

Don't forget reading can, of course, be a group activity. If you read with someone else, be sure to log that time for both of you. As for programs, be sure to keep an eye on our calendar to see what's going on at every branch this summer! Since program registration is ONLINE ONLY, you can visit any branch to sign up at a computer if you do not have online access. We are here to help you!

Lastly, many thanks to our sponsors of the 2014 Summer Reading Program: UniBank, Target, Greater Worcester Community Foundation - Rosemary Davis Memorial Fund, City of Worcester, Worcester Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Worcester Public Library, Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
From the Children's Room

As we head into June, we are ready to Fizz, Boom, Read! We have many exciting, science-filled programs on the calendar for the summer, which we'll be kicking off on Saturday, June 14th with a day filled with festivities at the Main Library. In the morning, help us plant our garden on Library Lane. In the afternoon, we'll Go for the Stars during a hands-on, multimedia space program. Be sure to sign up to participate in the Summer Reading Program while you're here, and receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last).

We are also happy to announce our partnership with the Worcester Public Schools and their mobile summer meal program. Free lunches for ages 0-17 will be provided at the Main Library and branches. The start date, complete schedule, and all details will be available mid-June on our website.
Teen Zone

Teens (and other YA lit lovers) can join us to kick off this year's Summer Reading Program with a visit from author Julie Berry, who recently published her newest YA novel, All The Truth That's in Me. Other Spark a Reaction themed programs include
"Weird Science" on Fridays beginning June 6 & 20 and a new Open Tech Lab where Teens can experiement with software programs about graphic design, video game production, sound and music recording, and more on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 24th.
