No, That's Not Egg on His Face:
JEWISHcolorado's Doug Seserman
JEWISHcolorado held its 2014 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, August 27th, at the Infinity Park Event Center. An enthusiastic crowd of supporters attended to thank the outgoing leadership, to honor volunteers and young leaders, and to welcome 2015's board.
One of the highlights of the evening came when Doug Seserman, president and CEO, accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and then, while still dripping wet, took the Hamas v. Hummus challenge on behalf of Friends of the Israel Defense Forces. A video of Seserman's self-applied hummus facial is available here. Special recognition was given to Nancy Gart and Ruth Malman, 2014 Board Co-Chairs and Amy Toltz-Miller, 2014 Development Chair and incoming Board Chair. Seth Wong and Cintra Pollack were presented young leadership awards. Lisa Engbar was named volunteer of the year.
Were you there? Who do you recognize?

How These Colorado Rabbis Prepare for Rosh Hashanah 5775
Part One - Rabbi Evette Lutman, B'nai Havurah
 | Rabbi Evette Lutman - B'nai Havurah |
Beginning this week exclusively on Radio Chavura, we launch our annual series on preparing for the High Holidays.
This year we are proud to feature another prominent group of Colorado spiritual leaders, starting with Rabbi Evette Lutman of B'nai Havurah, the Denver Reconstructionist Congregation that serves more than 240 households.
B'nai Havurah is an egalitarian and participatory community, open to multiple perspectives and forms of religious expression.
Rabbi Lutman, who is affectionately called "Rabbi Evette" by her congregants, was hired in July 2010 upon her rabbinic ordination for the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, PA. She has a law degree from Ohio State University.
 |
Clockwise: Rabbi Rapp, Rabbi Leban and Rabbi Field
|
Our interview with Rabbi Lutman was conducted in June 2014, just prior to her departure for a summer in Israel. The rabbi is passionate about Israel and urges her congregants to visit and stay engaged.
Rabbi Lutman discusses her personal and congregational preparations for the High Holidays, which begin this year on Wednesday evening, September 24th.
In future segments, we'll feature Rabbi Daniel Rapp, visiting professor of Talmud and Associate Dean of Students at Yeshiva University (East Denver Orthodox Synagogue); Rabbi Raphael Leban, The Jewish Experience; and Rabbi Brian Field, Judaism Your Way.
Although the rabbis represent a variety of approaches and Jewish denominations, each rabbi shares insights certain to make 5775 relevant and inspirational.
Fresh episodes of Radio Chavura are available on Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm at Chavura.com as well as from the iTunes store.

Rocky Mountain Jewish Pet of the Week: Smudge
Smudge and owner Rafi Daugherty were brought together in 2005 when Rafi found him on the way to work one morning in Brooklyn. Since then, Smudge and Rafi have been an inseparable duo, with Smudge accompanying Rafi around New York, to Israel, Denver, a cross-country trip, and Camp Ramah. Smudge spends most of his days sleeping and occasionally chasing Rafi's new cat around their apartment. Smudge loves hot dogs and small furry toys.
Rafi, who was born in Colorado and raised in Missouri, is well-known in Colorado for his role overseeing Keshet's local office and his involvement with B'nai Havurah. Rafi has worked with individuals with development disabilities, homeless New York City youth, and taught for Limmud NY and Nehirim about transgender issues.
One pet each week is selected by The Mountain States Region of Jewish National Fund and Radio Chavura as part of the MishPAWcha™ campaign, which allows Jewish pet owners to mark pet birthdays and adoption anniversaries, or just to say, "I love you" in the universal language of giving.
To nominate your dog, cat or other beloved pet, email photos and stories to [email protected] along your contact details, including a phone numbe r. Those who pledge a minimum of $36 to JNF will be guaranteed that their pet will be recognized on the MishPAWcha™ website.

Attention Cat Lovers: Don't let the canines have all the fun. Be sure to nominate your cat (or cats) for our weekly MishPAWcha™ honors.
