When Chazan Maurice "Moshe" Weiss decided to move to Denver to become the cantor at Beth Joseph Congregation (now The Denver Synagogue: BMH-BJ Congregation), his family was against the idea.
"Where are you going?" his parents asked.
"You're going to be frozen all the time," warned his friends.
 The year was 1958 and the Cantors Assembly had asked Chazan Weiss, who is also an ordained rabbi, to come to the Mile High City - which, despite the naysayers - he instantly fell in love with.
Chazan Weiss spent nearly 25 years serving the Beth Joseph community along with his wife, Roslyn - co-owner of Boutique Judaica (5052 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, 80222). Today he still serves the community officiating at both joyful and mournful occasions.
Chazan Weiss joins us in the studio to reflect on his career and his time in Colorado.

Denver has five top-tier Jewish schools - Beth Jacob, Denver Academy of Torah, Denver Jewish Day School, Hillel Academy, and Yeshiva Toras Chaim.
 Sadly, these schools are often under-funded, and parents increasingly must struggle to afford Jewish day school tuition.
