Many of the students received grants and academic scholarships bringing the cost of tuition to nearly zero! The high school students are continuing to take advantage of the L.E.A.P program through Hudson Community College. Freshman and Sophomore students are currently taking Public Speaking 101 while the Junior and Senior students are taking Introduction to Psychology. These courses are taken for dual credit, meaning the student will receive credit for the course towards their high school graduation, and also earn official college credit that will be transferred into their future college or university. Rising Star Academy looks forward to continue participating in this excellent program as it gives students the chance to familiarize themselves with the college environment and prepare for their bright futures insha'Allah.
Students currently enrolled in Advance Placement courses will have the opportunity to take the AP exam in May. The subjects that will be tested are AP Physics B, AP English Composition and Literature, AP Human Geography, and AP US History. The test is scored on a scale of 1-5. Students who earn a 4 or a 5 are able to submit this score to their future university for possible college credit or placement out of an introductory course. Students who earn a 3 on a none-science subject may also have the opportunity to do the same depending on the discretion of the university.
The Guidance Counseling Department would also like to give a friendly reminder about community service hours. All high school students must serve their communities and complete 200 hours of service in order to graduate. These hours should be spread out over the course of four years as much as possible.
