State Board Approves Emergency Action for Normandy School District

The State Board of Education approved a recommendation from the Department to impose financial oversight over the Normandy School District effective immediately. The oversight ensures that all Normandy students will finish the school year in their current location. Read More Here


Department Recommends Support and Intervention for School Districts

The Department presented its draft recommendations for accrediting, supporting and if necessary, intervening in Missouri schools at the February State Board meeting. It includes five tiers of support and interventions with various options to consider when applying them to districts. Read More Here

Teachers Support Higher Standards

Some of the state's top teachers sat down recently to show their support for higher academic standards. In a series of videos, the group gives testimonials on why higher standards are vital to the future of Missouri's students. View via YouTube.

 

Missouri Learning Standards

The Department has launched a newsletter devoted to learning standards in Missouri. This e-newsletter will keep Missourians up to date on the latest information on Missouri Learning Standards and includes blog posts and videos. Number of Missouri Students Taking Advanced Placement Exams Doubles

A report from the College Board shows that more than twice as many Missouri students took Advanced Placement Exams in 2013 than in 2003. Four Missouri school districts also made the AP Honor Roll, which honors districts for increasing the number of students who score a three or above. Read More Here

 

 
Goal #2 - All Missouri children will enter kindergarten prepared to be successful in school.

 

DRDP Training Rescheduled

Training for the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) previously scheduled in Columbia (Feb. 4-5) and Rolla (Feb. 5-6) will be rescheduled. More information will be provided as soon as the sessions are scheduled.  DRDP is a research-based, observation readiness tool adopted as the Department's recommended early childhood instrument. A rigorous five-phase training process is currently underway to certify a group of 20 Certified Coach Trainers (CCTs) who will provide statewide training on use of the DRDP. Read More

Missouri Observation Simulation Tool Officially Launches

The Missouri Observation Simulation Tool (MOST) has officially launched and is free to all administrators across the state, as well as to educator preparation programs and education organizations. MOST is an online training tool administrators can use to practice evaluating teachers by observing videos of teachers in action and guidance for how to provide meaningful feedback. With over 200 video clips available -- searchable by quality indicator, grade-level, and content area -- MOST offers districts targeted support to align to four of the seven Essential Principles of Effective Educator Evaluation.  Click here to register now! 

 

State Board Reviews Performance Report for Educator Preparation Programs

The Department presented the first draft of the Annual Performance Report for Educator Preparation Programs to the State Board of Education at the February State Board meeting. The report will allow programs to see how well they are meeting the state's expectations for preparing teachers and school administrators, and to determine areas where improvement is needed. Public Hearings on Vocational Rehabilitation State Plan

Five public hearings regarding changes to the Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation (MVR) state plan have been scheduled in March throughout the state. The hearings will be conducted by MVR to gather feedback on the goals and priorities for the upcoming revised state plan.
