Outstanding Inclusion at GWHS
At GWHS there is a team of outstanding educators that exemplify what it means to be inclusive. Dana Zimpelmann is mild/moderate teacher at GWHS who, with the support of Special Education teachers and General Education teachers strive to ensure all students are supported, included and celebrated. Dana shares "inclusive education not only benefits students with disabilities, but also creates a classroom that is representative of the unique world in which we live where all students learn with and from each other. At Washington, we do many things to ensure that inclusion is meaningful. We have embraced the co-teaching model to provide instruction with specialized supports for all students and to build a community that collaborates and problem solves. Another important aspect of meaningful inclusion is looking at each student with an IEP as an individual and creating their academic schedule based on strengths and preferences. Through inclusive practices, Washington High School promotes a school community where all students belong. I believe that inclusive schools help to create inclusive communities where all people are valued for their unique contributions."
