October, 2015
Needs not Labels, Services not Places, Names not Numbers

It's hard to believe it is already October! iLearn has launched, 100 teachers are using Goalbook software and we are gearing up for our greatest Inclusive Schools Week celebration to date!
Special Education Awesomeness
iLearn: Curriculum + Tech = Growth!

The 15/16 Pilot cohort of the iLearn Project is in full swing! Thanks to the generosity of the Salesforce Foundation, close to one hundred students receiving Special Education Service and their outstanding teachers now have access to iPads and software to increase access and engagement. The iLearn Pilot Project is currently being implemented at seven middle schools and one k-8. Teachers are utilizing Unique Learning Software on iPads with students.
Inclusive Schools Week: More Inclusive than ever!

SFUSD is preparing for it's district-wide celebration of Inclusive Schools Week 2016! This year's theme is "Sharing our Gifts in Inclusive Schools".  Schools and district departments will be highlighting the wonders of not only accepting diversity, but welcoming it in our schools.  Mark your calendar and join us in celebrating SFUSD 15/16 Inclusive Schools Week December 7-11. Share a lesson, activity or reflection about how you're making your inclusion a reality at your site.  The official kick-off will take place at City Hall on the Polk Street steps on Monday, December 7th at 10am.  School sites will be celebrating throughout the week. Join us for the celebration! For more information contact Laura Savage at Savagel@sfusd.edu."
Educator Shout Out!
Lance Maeda, Aptos Middle School

"Lance is one of the most caring educators I have worked with. He goes above and beyond every day to meet the needs of his caseload, teach his SDC classes, and collaborate with his co-teachers. Students in his classes not only learn academics, but also show growth in their social and emotional learning. Our school is a better place because of the positive energy he brings into it." Way to go Lance! Thank you for all that you do to ensure student success! (Submitted by Assistant Principal Deidre Durling)
