Presidio Middle School: Teaching with Tech

Scott & Grey
Scott Booth and Grey Todd teach a co-taught 6th grade Math/Science class at Presidio Middle School.  In addition to embracing the co-teaching model, these two stellar teachers are making technology an integral part of their learning environment.  The classroom is equipped with 30 computers which are used by students almost daily. Computers are utilized to access online individualized, standards-based math games and/or lessons through sites like Manga High and IXL.  Scott and Grey also embed functional technology skills into their lessons by teaching students to email their teachers, use the internet for research, check their grades on School Loop, use Google Drive to submit assignments, create presentations, and write code in spreadsheets to solve math problems.  Students in Scott and Grey's class are not only learning 6th grade Math and Science, they are learning skills that will prepare them for college, careers, and life!  Hats off to Scott Booth and Grey Todd at Presidio Middle School for facilitating learning with the use of technology!

Hoover Middle School: Using Tools to Meet Student Needs

After participating in Stetson's Step by Step training this fall, Hoover Middle School was visited by Linda Borsheim, a trainer from Stetson and Associates.  Linda spent two days at Hoover delivering technical assistance to the Hoover team.  This included meeting the staff, visiting classes, and conducting professional development around the use of Form 2, recently renamed SNAP (Student Needs Analysis Profile) by SFUSD.  Forms 1 and 2 are resources created by Stetson that allow a team to analyze the supports and services required to meet a student's needs in the Least Restrictive Environment and to help them achieve their IEP goals.  Michael Stachon, Assistant Principal at Hoover, talked about the connection between Form 2 and scheduling and expressed excitement about the new approach Hoover will take to scheduling students and staff next year.  This spring, in preparation for next year, Hoover will complete an analysis of services outlined in students' IEPs, and schedule these students first to ensure that classes are structured/staffed purposefully to meet students' needs.  Moving forward, staff felt it would be a great idea to enlarge and laminate a Form 2 and post in the IEP room to increase parent understanding and participation in the process. Kudos to Hoover Middle School for taking this information on inclusive practices and running with it!
