Get Ahead of the Curve
Preparing for the Transition to Middle School

A huge "shout out" to the 50-60 5th and 6th grade teachers who attended the Get Ahead of the Curve Event February 26th! Teachers shared information on school sites including schedules, service delivery options and campus resources. The event established connections, answered questions and will undoubtably lead to further collaboration for a smoother, more informed transition for students. If you have any questions on the event contact Middle School Content Specialist Julie Whelly.

200 SFUSD Staff Trained Since August!

The CPI team has been working diligently to train SFUSD administrators, counselors, teachers, para-professionals, and security guards across the district. The training focuses on prevention and offers proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage. So far this year in our two-day trainings approximately 200 SFUSD staff members have received certification. The training focuses on verbal de-escalation techniques. These techniques and strategies are aimed at improving classroom management and positive interventions.  By using CPI strategies, SFUSD's goal is to provide for the care, welfare, safety, and security of students and staff.

Spring into SEIS Training

IEP Compliance and End of the Year Prep

Spring into SEIS at Everett Middle School was a huge success! Special Education Teachers, Administrators, Psychologists and Related Services Providers traveled through stations facilitated by Content Specialists, the Multilingual Pathways Department and our Educationally Related Mental Health Services Team (ERMHS). Training materials and videos can be located in the Help Center on SEIS and in the Document Library.

 Highly Qualified Update

In our continued effort to improve compliance, Human Resources is issuing a letter detailing subjects that you are currently deemed "highly qualified" under the Elementary & Secondary Education Act (formerly referred to as NCLB). Teachers delivering direct instruction of core academic content to students as the teacher of record must be highly qualified in that subject matter.  The core academic areas are: Elementary/Multiple Subjects, English/Reading/Language Arts, Arts - Visual, Music, Drama, Dance, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Science, Social Science - History, Government, Economics and Geography. To request a copy of your certificate, or ask any questions related to Highly Qualified Status email Christy Prasad in Human Resources at prasadc@sfusd.edu.  CDE Guidance

Important Reminders

There are recent updates to "SEIS IEP and Reclassification Guidelines for Students Who Receive English Learner and Special Education Services." The following is a snap shot of the guidance surrounding writing ELD goals for students. See the full document, "SEIS IEP and Reclassification Guidelines for Students Who Receive English Learner and Special Education Services," in the SEIS document library.

"Students need to have an ELD goal for each domain in which the student does not score proficient, or a 4/early advanced on the CELDT. The student can have either:

-a separate ELD specific goal for each domain in which they did not score a 4

-OR--linguistically appropriate goals in other areas of need for the student (i.e. ELA, communication, etc.) that are appropriately linked to ELD standards and the student's proficiency level. Please review the document located in the SEIS Document Library for additional information.
