Only 53% of girls interested in STEM know a woman in a STEM career.
But what is STEM? STEM is the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It is an ever growing field, with an expected 8 million+ jobs by 2018. However, women currently only hold 27% of these jobs. Women in STEM also make 33% more than women working in other fields. So why is this happening?
This gap starts early--35% of boys 8-17 year olds state that they are interested in an engineering career, vs 19% of girls. Outdoor Lab helps to shrink this gap by giving girls at a young age hands-on experiences in these fields. While they are up at Mt. Evans or Windy Peak, they are able to discover their passion for STEM. Girls are given the chance to explore science and engineering in a safe place.
Join us as we hear from top women in their STEM related fields about the challenges they faced and how we can continue to inspire our girls at our first ever Girls in STEM at Leopold Bros. distillery in Denver on March 10th. It will be a night of fun, entertainment, drinks and appetizers. |
