Bainbridge Island at work... together!                                                            April 22, 2013

Greetings!

Happy Earth Day! Looks like all the construction commotion this past week got the best of my email schedule, I missed a week, and this mail is long! There's news about new coffee, new exhibit, and new room, and even new glasses. I'll save the news about "new water" for next week.
Jason didn't waste any time getting the new windows to sparkle, even though the wall wasn't painted yet. Then Thursday night, Bruce Carter and Sylvia Carlton stayed with us until 11pm helping to create order from chaos. Bruce painted the exterior of the wall (we ran out of paint, so it's not done to the scrutinizer), and Sylvia curated and hung most of our new semi-permanent display of master photography, from world renown locals Steve Wilson and Linda Wolf. Bruce is the owner of Indigo Painting Company, and Sylvia is a beloved fine art painter and is the founder of Plein Air Washington. It takes a village!

Grounds for Change brings fair trade coffee to the office, earns honor of "Best FOR the World"

Grounds For Change coffee at OfficeXpatsStacy Marshal, founder of Grounds for Change, is now partnering with us for office coffee. There are many reasons we are honored to offer GFC coffee, the primary being that their connoisseur brew is rich and delicious. But there is more. In honor of Earth Day, we can proudly report that in addition to being organic and fair trade, GFC has partnered with Carbonfund.org to offset 100% of the global warming emissions associated with their coffee- the first coffee roaster in the country to complete the rigorous third-party certification process. Grounds for Change is now one of the Best Social Entrepreneurs in the world. Congratulations, Stacy! Read more about the GFC connection to Bainbridge.

We'd like to share our discount with members who want to regularly  buy some for personal use. Check out the list of blends here, and let us know what you would like. We can offer most blends to members for $9.50.

There are a few spots available for drop-ins ($10 at the door) if you want to grab this session, and members can still register for free.

Next week, April 30, Elaine Jones from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be here to help us think creatively with our sales and marketing plan.

Trunk and Fashion show for Elle's Island Spectacle

I'm enjoying watching Elle Tatum birth her new eyewear business. I get a front row seat because she is doing a lot of it while also working as an OfficeXpats ambassador. But I'm also now a customer. She told me about a low-cost way to get a prescription, and then I picked out my first new frames in 30 years at last week's "welcome" party. And here I am, with Lilly Robinson, an Xpat's kid, who also scored new specs through Elle.

Saturday, April 27, 1-4pm: The trunk show in the Pavilion will offer a unique chance to check out hundreds of fabulous frames, and Elle will be on hand to share her decades of experience and her new business model offering tremendous savings. Then at 3pm, Elle has rounded up a bunch of island dress shops to show off fashions on models who will also wear the Hemingway brand eyewear that she sells. Models will make a dramatic entrance via the central staircase. Don't miss this island fashion spectacle!
