In the next few hours, Laurel Wilson treats us again to a live simulcast of a TEDx event. I can't believe how lucky we are for this community gift of her time and organizational talents (not to mention her TED license!), and I hope you can take advantage of it even if this is the first you are learning about it.  Kombi Then, next weekend the office will launch into its biggest physical transformation since Grand Opening when a wall is built to create a new classroom/community room in preparation for welcoming Kombi to co-locate with us in May (read more about Kombi moving in). We can't wait to see how Kombi employees take advantage of this new environment, and we know they will add energy and talents to an already well-connected membership. We'll keep you posted...

Wednesday, April 3: From the Gates Foundation campus in Seattle, Melinda Gates hosts TEDxChange 2013. Themed "Positive Disruption," TEDxChange 2013 speakers will challenge preconceived ideas, spark discussion, engage leaders and shed light on new perspectives. "Disruption is usually unwelcome. It represents conflict, chaos, and potential danger. We discourage disruptive behavior in our homes and our societies, often favoring passivity and compliance. But disruption can be a positive - sometimes vital - catalyst for change. To solve the most intractable challenges in health and development, we need positive disruption. It is the path to true progress." - Melinda French Gates.

9am-11am: TEDxElliottBayChange is a Bainbridge simulcast of TEDxChange 2013, bringing together people who care about global health. By bringing the content of a large conference to the comfort of a small venue, we are able to share both their ideas and our own in a conversant community setting. Your invitation is a call to participate! Kabissa is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Xpat Tobias Eigen with the mission to help African civil society organizations put Internet and communication technology to work for the benefit of their communities. Currently, a team of volunteers runs an online networking platform for over 1600 member organizations working throughout Africa. 
 
On Wednesday, April 10, 1:30-3pm, Kabissa will bring together people on or near Bainbridge to brainstorm next steps for working together. Participants are not obligated to join the committee but Kabissa welcomes your advice and input. Please RSVP to Tobias Eigen tobias@kabissa.org, or 206-375-7984.

OfficeXpats on Bainbridge Island is a community workplace also known as coworking. Our vision is to become THE place on Bainbridge Island where independent workers, small businesses, and big ideas find community and support.

 

OfficeXpats is located upstairs in the Pavilion on Madison, just a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal, through beautiful downtown Winslow. We hope to help you in your quest for 'new ways to work.'
