Greetings!
Happy Winter Break week! It's been a little quiet around the office the past few days, and we hope there are a bunch of vacations going on. This Thursday is the Art and Upcycle night for everyone who needs a once-a-month art date. Next week we offer an all-day, free TEDx event of a live webcast of TED2013. And then, March is presentation month (the Tuesday @noon workshops, that is). Time flies.
  In order to watch the TED2013 conference on your own, you could pay $995 for an individual yearly TED Live membership. Or, you could watch all of the Wednesday, February 27 sessions for free in the company of other TED enthusiasts at your local coworking space. Life is good.
TEDxElliottBay and OfficeXpats invite you to a full day live-stream webcast of TED2013 is The Young. The Wise. The Undiscovered, the Wednesday sessions (4: Disrupt!, 5: Dream!, 6: Create! and 7: Sustain!). Please register for any or all sessions (the event is free but seating is limited). Will coworking give your business a huge edge?
Lydia Dishman of Fast Company thinks so. In her article, The Future of Coworking, she says it's not just for startups or freelancers anymore. By running a small business in a curated coworking space, Dodd Caldwell, founder of two online services, Loft Resumes and MoonClerk, says, "I get the advantages of the culture of a medium-size business without having to deal with most of the downsides that come with it, like bureaucracy." Here are some numbers that Dishman claims support the case for coworking.
- 71% report a boost in creativity since joining a coworking space
- 62% said their standard of work had improved in a coworking space
- Almost 90% of coworkers report an increase in self-confidence

Make a Date to Make Art
 Thursday, February 21, 6-8:30pm, is 3rd Thursday Art Night at the X. Join us to collage, or bring your own craft or art project and enjoy a fresh environment for your creativity. If you want to try collage, I'm happy to share my minimal techniques and supplies. Assemblages and collage are a fun way to find the highest and best use for objects that no longer function well for their original purpose, so your efforts serve doubly as "upcycling." Get inspired here. Beginners and the "just-curious" are welcome. No charge; small donations accepted for supplies. |

OfficeXpats on Bainbridge Island is a community workplace also known as coworking. Our vision is to become THE place on Bainbridge Island where independent workers, small businesses, and big ideas find community and support.
OfficeXpats is located upstairs in the Pavilion on Madison, just a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal, through beautiful downtown Winslow. We hope to help you in your quest for 'new ways to work.'
