Bainbridge Island at work... together!                                                            February 14, 2013

Greetings!

We will be open late as promised on Thursdays, so if you care to join us, bring your own dinner and we will supply the candlelight. Most of the Pavilion restaurants will bring your order to you at OfficeXpats on real dishes! Hmmm, must choose... mango curry from Spice Route, sushi from Subi, tortilla soup from Casa Rojas, or grass-fed-organic-beef-burger-in-a-bowl from Soup'r Burger? Tough choices! Also, due to Valentines Day, there will be no Follow the Money economics salon this month.

Jason has a plan for special drinks at the V-day happy hour. This might be one of them.

Agave Kiss

2 parts Tequila

1 part black raspberry liqueur

1 part white cream de cacao

1 part half and half

ice cubes

Add ice cubes to shaker, pour ingredients, shake, strain into a cocktail glass, and garnish with berries

Shareable is Lovable
When I go to Portland this weekend to visit my niece, I will be staying in a a stranger's home for roughly $60/night. They have chickens too, and live a couple blocks from the Wilamette River. When I go to the GCUC Coworking Conference in Austin in a couple weeks, I will save precious cash by using frequent flier miles and staying in a stranger's home for about $40/night. My host and I have had several exchanges, and I learned he has also been a coworker in Austin. I guess I'm on the cutting edge of the shareable economy, and it's pretty fun.

Shareable.net is one of my favorite newsletters these days, and yes, I found out about Airbnb.com from it. Here is a great article from a "Year of Living Shareably," and specifically from the founder of Shareable How I Saved $17,000 in One Year By Sharing. Yes, coworking was part of his mix, so this is 100% self-serving. But you will also find out how to rent a car using a peer-to-peer service (or make money renting out your own car!) and loaning your savings for 9% interest.

From Neal Gorenflo, founder of Shareable, "My year of living the shareable life taught me some surprising lessons. The toughest to swallow is that the modern world isn't designed for sharing - yet. The world needs role models in order to make change. I hadn't thought my blog would make a difference, but I was wrong. My story was picked up by Fast Company, Sunset, and NBC Nightly News, reaching tens of millions of people with the message that sharing is both good for the soul and a savvy financial move."
