Bainbridge Island at work... together!                                                            November 21, 2012

 Greetings!

We more or less survived a couple hours of power outage during Monday's storm (Wi-fi by cell phone hot spot works in a pinch), and now Thanksgiving is upon us! We are so thankful for the informal and fun personality that our community has developed in just the past couple of months.  Enjoy your time with family and friends, and see you back on Monday.

Welcome the New City Manager; Keep The focus on Innovation

Come meet Doug Schultz, our new city maager

Monday, November 26, 6:30pm at OfficeXpats: Does city management matter for creating a vibrant economy? Some say City Hall tends to focus inward, managing Bainbridge governance from the inside out. On Monday night, as part of the Village Speak series, we have a chance to meet Doug Schultz, the new city manager and talk directly to him about our concerns as business innovators. Doug was voted in by a 6-0 margin. They say he has charisma. Let's connect strongly with Doug, let him know we are vital in building a thriving Island economy and that we offer mutual support and neighborly decision-making that will keep our community strong and economically vital. No RSPV required. Bring a dish to share. Suggested donation for wine and beer, $5. And here's a good interview with Doug

Xpat Laurel Wilson brings us TEDxElliottBayWomen

Got TED? You know about the thousands of 18-minute "TED talks" on the Web for "ideas worth spreading," right?

What is the "x" about? Don't get us started about the "x"! (haha). OK, a "TEDx" is a local TED event, and a TEDx organizer is someone who has been through the training to produce local events according to the exacting TED requirements.

One of our own, Laurel Wilson, has done just that, and her branding is TEDx ElliotBayWomen. Some of you may have attended her curated TED video showings on Friday mornings here last spring. Now she is bringing a "live + streaming" hybrid event to Bainbridge Island on December 1 that lets us enjoy local talent along with the simulcast of TEDxWomen from the US Institute for Peace.

Saturday December 1, 9am-5pm: TEDxElliottBayWomen invites you to join us at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art to experience live presentations by the zestful Jen Breen, the extraordinary teen improv troupe Thumbs Up!, spiritual leader Kim Beyer Nelson, and PeaceTrees founder Jerilyn Brusseau, plus a live simulcast of TEDxWomen presentations, including The Mirror, Beginnings and Endings, and The Rising.

The event is open to the public. Tickets for this all-day event with Laurel's famous food served up as complimentary refreshments, lunch, and a reception, is ridiculously affordable. Men are very welcome. Mothers and daughters may attend together on one shared ticket by contacting the organizer in advance. Online tickets are available here or you can buy tickets at OfficeXpats

November workshops: Target your customers... and contact them!

Charlie King coaches us on cold calls

In our recently completed 3rd workshop, Andrejs Zommers took us through the 40/40/20 rule of direct marketing, describing the value of audience, the offer, and everything else.

In our 4th workshop next week, the entrepreneur's coach Charlie King returns after his popular September session on Leadership Skills for Entrepreneurs to offer strategies designed to help you get clear on the value you offer and get past the fear of cold calls. Read more and register.
