Bainbridge Island at work... together!                                                            November 14, 2012

 Greetings!

For the first time in many months, we are gathering the tribe TOMORROW for a members meeting, to get input on matters both forward-looking and fun. In your planning for the NEXT set of holidays, note that for the three days following Christmas we will have a shorter version of Think Week. As per last year, Think Week is open and free to the greater island community (the idea for Ignite Bainbridge was born in a brainstorm last time around!). Stay tuned for groovy Think Week events (or propose some!).

How did coworking and the sharing economy respond to Superstorm Sandy?

According to Deskmag, New York City is the biggest coworking hub worldwide, and in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, many coworking spaces responded by setting up support services and opening their locations to those in need. The website Sandy Coworking, a crowdsourced map, was quickly created to help "power-less" New Yorkers plug in or find a place with Wi-Fi  to work. Here are more links to related stories.

Time for a meeting of the Xpats

Thursday, 4pm: All members are invited to a special happy hour gathering THIS THURSDAY (11/15) at 4pm to offer input on some Xpat opportunities. As usual, there will be a wide variety of drinks and snacks.

First up on the agenda: help plan improvements to our space! In January we plan to launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund some improvements that will take us to a new level, and we'd like to get input on what you think should also be in this plan.

Next is to plan a members holiday party! Some of the frequent flier members have offered to pitch in, so we'd better set a date and get to planning! Laurel Wilson, the food queen from the OfficeXpats anniversary party, is willing to do it all over again! And music is on deck: the jam band led by Toby Champion, Leif Utne, and Dave Kragen that played at the anniversary party will regroup.

November workshops: Target your customers... and contact them!

The last two workshops have shown us library-licensed resources for do-it-yourself market research or to generate direct marketing lists of contacts. And if you need additional help, you can just go to the library and ask for it!

In our 3rd workshop next week (11/20), Andrejs Zommers helps us understand how a service can help you with a direct marketing campaign from start to finish, including strategies for what makes a welcomed direct marketing appeal such as a low-cost direct mail postcard or e-mail. Learn the 40/40/20 rule. Get an overview of the kinds of mailing lists available on the market (consumer, B2B, donor, etc.). Andrejs will cover  list selection, best practices for avoiding questionable data sources and terms-of-service violations, and staying within CAN-SPAM Act compliance. This workshop may run longer, so plan to stay a little later if you can. Read more and register.
