So we made it past the elections, past daylight savings time, and Thanksgiving is coming a little earlier than usual this year. A little advance notice about the obvious... OfficeXpats will be closed for turkey day and the day after. But here's a plug for After Hours (an add-on to any membership level): you too could sneak away from the in-laws and "get some work done" if you had 24/7 access to a handy coworking space nearby. At just $75/month, that could be just the ticket!
 
3rd Coworking Europe conference gets underway in Paris

 

The third European Coworking Conference takes place in Paris, November 8-10 2012. The first Coworking Europe was in Brussels in 2010, with The Hub Brussels, and 2011 was in Berlin, with Club Office and Betahaus. The organizers expect 300 attendees this year, originating from more than 30 different countries. Coworking Europe 2012 will bring together coworking space managers, entrepreneurship activists, nomad and innovation experts, collaboration gurus, as well as representatives from the public and of the corporate sector. And Susan Evans, co-founder of Seattle's coworking space Office Nomads, will be on a panel discussing collaboration between coworking spaces! 

 

Deskmag, "the coworking magazine," is a sponsor of the conference and will present the core results of the 3rd Global Coworking Survey, including the overall count of over 2000 coworking spaces as of October 2012--a 250% increase over the 600 spaces just two years ago. "The highest growth belongs to Spain, a country in crisis - now having the most coworking spaces per inhabitant."

Xpat members start a Tech Group 

  

Fridays at 10am: Come and talk tech with other like-minded folks. This is an informal gathering with very little agenda. Share something you're working on that's really cool, ask for input on something you're puzzled by or struggling with, talk about an awesome side project you're excited about. This way, we can all learn about something new. We're trying it out at 10 am every Friday starting this week (11/9), in the Event room. Tell your friends. Join the event or post your comments here, or just show up.  

November workshops: Target your customers... and contact them!

 

Paula Willems shared her experience creating potential customer lists

In our workshop this week, human resources consultant and Xpat Paula Willems shared her experience of using library resources to identify and reach her target audience of businesses on Bainbridge with 10-40 employees. Then Audrey Barbakoff, Kitsap Regional Librarian, gave a great demo on how to query the databases that Paula had used, all licensed by Kitsap Regional Library, for doing market research or to generate contact lists. We also learned a bit about how much information on ourselves is out there! Next week (11/13) Audrey returns to help participants create their own targeted list.  Read more and register. 

Writers Group "SPELL" meets Thursday

 

Love to write but not sure if you're ready for a group? Then the monthly SPELL group is the one to try first. We meet tomorrow (2nd Thursdays), 3-5pm. Come to share your ideas, or projects you are working on, and bring your pen! We usually do a fun writing exercise from a prompt for 15 minutes and then we read our (sometimes wild) results.
