Bainbridge Island at work... together!                                                            October 31, 2012

 Greetings!

Happy Halloween, and thank goodness for no hurricanes on this coast. We hope your far-away loved ones are safe, and that you get to enjoy the closed-to-traffic Winslow for costumed festivities this evening. This week a new monthly Open House happens on Thursday, and we celebrate the contributors to the current photography exhibit on Friday. Then a new workshop series starts next Tuesday! (Want to make your mark at "I love coworking at... because..."? Click here.)

1000 RSVPs and a ribbon-cutting mayor make for a hoppin' coworking party

Beautiful space on 5 floors of a historic Pioneer Square building
Brian Howe, founder of the HUB Seattle believes that they are creating a place where people can have, "serendipitous collisions with each other, find new ways to collaborate on exciting adventures that have social and sustainable impact." Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn made reference to the 50th anniversary Seattle World's Fair. "Fifty years ago they said we were going to be the city of the future...and we stand here today and know that we have an amazing reputation all around the world for entrepreneurs, environmental sustainability and idealistic values...we have that reputation because of you folks in this room."

Jason and I touched base with BGI founders and grads, and also (surprisingly) many Bainbridge-based social entrepreneur types from Yes! Magazine, OSI, and more. Many of us continued the party on board the 9 o'clock ferry. We have our priorities.

Don't miss First Friday Art Walk reception for OfficeXpats photography exhibit

Please join us on November 2 for a First Friday Art Walk reception with drinks and appetizers honoring the contributors to the current OfficeXpats photography exhibit. Meet renown photojournalist Steve Wilson, the curator of this show, and chat with the OfficeXpats members about what they learned from a master in the process of getting their photos chosen! Some of the photos are for sale, so you may also find some gifts or that one image that just won't let you go! Here is a guest post by Tobias Eigen about getting his photos chosen for the exhibit.

November workshops: Target your prospective customers... and contact them!

On November 6, the 'Tuesday @noon' business skills workshops will feature Audrey Barbakoff, Kitsap Regional Librarian, who will demo how to query databases licensed by Kitsap Regional Library for understanding your target demographics or to generate contact lists. Read more and register.

Friday, Nov 9:  calling all wannabe speakers and volunteers to a vision meeting for Ignite Bainbridge 2013

Ignite Bainbridge will return in May 2013, but November is still a great month for Ignite. On November 8, catch Ignite Seattle at Town Hall, where Seattle mayor Michael McGinn will be giving his first Ignite talk. Then on November 9, join us for a noon-time meeting at OfficeXpats to create the vision for Ignite Bainbridge 2013 (and gossip about the performances at Ignite Seattle the night before). Finally, hook up with other enthusiasts to watch Ignite BGI at the HUB Seattle on November 14!

First Friday Africa Round Table

The Africa Roundtable returns this Friday at noon. Diana Cocoru, Kabissa volunteering coordinator from Dakar will speak about her experiences in Senegal, and Nicole Anand in Washington DC will introduce the Global Integrity TESTING 123 Innovation Fund. If time permits, Tobias Eigen will also talk about his upcoming trip to Abuja and a proposal for establishing Kabissa more firmly as a presence at OfficeXpats. All are invited; registration is required and free, but a donation to Kabissa is welcomed!
