Bainbridge Island at work... together! October 24, 2012

Greetings!

Thanks for the photo, Leif Utne!

Susan Evans' visit to OfficeXpats with Buckley was a great opportunity to share coworking stories! And speaking of Seattle-based coworking, congratulations to HUB Seattle, celebrating its grand re-opening this Friday in new Pioneer Square digs that it shares with Bainbridge Graduate Institute. In a sad situation of too much goodness, the celebration conflicts with the first Bainbridge Green Drinks in a while. This week's Chamber of Commerce After Hours is Thursday at 5:30pm. And please note that Ignite Bainbridge has been postponed into 2013 (more coming soon).
A new monthly coworker OPEN HOUSE leads into the evening "BBC2"
On Thursday, November 1,OfficeXpats hosts an open house from 5-6pm. We expect this to become a monthly 'first Thursday' event, overlapping the member happy hour (so new folks get to meet some members) and leading into the evening Bainbridge Business Connections (at 6pm) for those who want to stay and explore another business support group.
What does this mean for you? If you are a member, please invite people in your circles to show them the space, introduce them to the community, and offer them a drink. If you are not a member, this is a great way to make a monthly or occasional connection with our members and keep up with new directions. We look forward to seeing you on November 1! Contact Leslie with any questions. Check here for updates.

The burgers are coming! The burgers are coming!
Local Harvest was a much beloved restaurant in the Pavilion, and their flatbreads were to die for. But the wood-fired oven is now gone and a new venture, Soup'r Burger, is about to take off in its place. What's exciting for us is that the new owners are also the owners of Pretty Stick (natural beauty products, or "pretty without the poison") and members of OfficeXpats! Now I have NO IDEA how Josh Bortman can handle two new businesses, but I am looking forward to his grass-fed beef hamburgers and his fun presence in our building. Plus, Alex Sanso, the creator of our "X" logo, is painting a mural on their walls!
Please plan to stop by on Halloween evening for the public opening! Oh, and they are hiring too. A server, a line cook, and a dishwasher/prep cook.

November workshops: Target your prospective customers... and contact them!
 | Audrey Barbakoff leads the first two workshops in November |
The 'Tuesday @noon' business skills workshops in November will explore the powerful impact of market research and direct marketing, or more plainly, how to target your prospective customers... and contact them with compelling offers that get results. By the end of the month, participants will have had the opportunity to create a list of targeted contacts and a plan for what to do with them - a direct marketing campaign from start to finish!:
- Nov 6: Audrey Barbakoff, Kitsap Regional Librarian, demos how to query databases licensed by Kitsap Regional Library for understanding your target demographics or to generate contact lists.
- Nov 13: Audrey returns for a hands-on session, to help participants define their own queries and generate an actionable list for cold calls or direct mail.
- Nov 20: Andrejs Zommers of AMZ Productions helps us understand a simple direct marketing campaign from start to finish, including strategies for what makes a welcomed direct marketing appeal such as a low-cost postcard or e-mail.
- Nov 27: Ken Sethney, marketing coach and president of XLR8 Kitsap shows us how to choose the best way to contact prospective customers directly, how to craft the appeal, and, if the best approach is a personal one, he offers his experience in how to write an appealing script for THE DREADED COLD CALL

Calling all Drupal geeks!
Longtime Xpat Tobias Eigen attended the Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit last weekend in Seattle and is suggesting that we get the next Bainbridge Island Drupal User Group meeting on the calendar (there was one meeting last spring). It's not always easy to get into Seattle for the monthly Seattle Drupal Users Group meetups, so we should nurture and grow our island Drupal community. Contact Tobias if you are interested in participating, or better yet, making this happen (tobiaseigen@gmail.com).
