About Us

The Aliso Niguel High School Instrumental Music Boosters, Inc (ANHSIMB) is a California non-profit corporation, recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Our sole purpose for existence is to provide funding, resources, and support for the instrumental music programs at Aliso Niguel High School. The organization is governed and managed by a Board of Directors, who are elected on an annual basis and serve as unpaid volunteers.

Regular monthly meetings of the ANHS Instrumental Music Bosters are open to the public, and are held at 7pm on the third Wednesday of the month in the ANHS Band Room. All are welcome to attend.

Dear ANHS Instrumental Music Booster,

March is an extremely busy month for the ANHS Instrumental Music Programs. We are hosting a two-day SCPA percussion competition on March 14-15 and a WGASC Winter Guard comp on the 28th. In addition, all of our Winter Competition Ensembles have a full slate of away competitions on the calendar, with our Open Guard traveling to Fresno for WGI Championships on March 21-22, and our Winter Drum Line competing at the SCPA Finals in San Bernardino on the 28th.

Here's what's happening in the ANHS instrumental music programs this month and beyond:

2015 ANHS Winter Competition Ensembles

Our 2015 Winter Competition Season is underway, with our Winter "Open" Guard competing to date in both WGI & WGASC shows, while our Winter A Guard made their competition dbut at Arcadia High's WGASC show on February 28.

2015 ANHS Open Guard

The ANHS Open Guard kicked off their season with a seventh-place finish at the WGI "Riverside" comp at Great Oak HS in Temecula on February 21, then went on to a first-place finish at the WGASC comp at Arcadia High on February 28. Our Winter A Guard made their competition dbut at the event, scoring an impressive 86.30.

BTW - we were all impressed with the facility at Arcadia High, especially with their brand-new "Apache Caf" building that features a Sports Bar area that is furnished with comfortable lounge chairs and couches - and a couple of flat-screen TVs. Who knew?

Both Guards next compete in Chino on March 14, with the Open Guard traveling to WGI Championships in Fresno on March 21-22.

2015 Winter Drum Line

Our Winter Drum Line opened their winter season at the SCPA competition in Rancho Cucamonga on February 7, scoring a 70.050. The Winter Drum Line next competes at Temescal Canyon High on March 8, followed by their appearance at the ANHS-hosted SCPA comp on March 14-15.

Please see the sidebar of this newsletter to sign-up as a volunteer for this important two-day competition on our home turf!

Headline IconBoard Elections Are This Month!

Our March 18 Board of Directors meeting is just a few weeks off, at which time we will elect new Board members to serve for the 2015-16 school year.

We will be losing a number of key Board members whose students will be graduating this June, parents who have directed our food service, communications, fund raising and logistics efforts. These Board members will be stepping down at the March 18 meeting!

We really need our underclassman parents to step up and volunteer to serve on the ANHSIMB Board of Directors if our program is to continue to run smoothly and professionally.

By holding elections now, our incoming Board members have the opportunity to consult with our outgoing Board members for the transition period that closes out the 2014-15 school year.

Please - consider taking that next step and joining the Board. You'll be doing important work that directly effects your student's music program experiences. If food service or communications isn't your forte, consider joining the Board as a member-at-large: we'll put you to work as needed.

If you're interested in serving on the Board, please e-mail our Board president Bob Steshetz ASAP, and let him know that you'd like to help.

Headline IconThank You!

We extend a very special "thank you" to Shirley Perry for doing the alterations on the winter drum line costumes, all of which arrived with legs that were way too long.

We'd like to once again thank everyone who assisted with our January Rummage Sale. Even unsold items went to great use, with the majority going to our very own Aliso Niguel High School Drama Department to use as stage props. A few pieces of leftover furniture were donated to a local organization called Mercy Warehouse, who provide food for over 1,000 people a week by selling donated items and using the profits to purchase food for needy families both locally and abroad (thanks to Rick Jones for carting our furniture donation to Mercy Warehouse). It's encouraging to see the contributions of our volunteers resonating beyond the confines of our needs and being used to help others.

And thank you for being a member of our Instrumental Music Booster organization!

We'd like to hear from you. If you have any suggestions as to how we can better serve you and your student, please drop us a line. We're always looking to improve our organization.

* On a personal note, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow Booster Board members and all of our Boosters for allowing me the privilege of acting as the ANHSIMB's VP of Communications and Fund Raising over the past two years. It's been a wonderful experience, an experience that I heartily recommend to anyone out there who wants to do something important for their own student and for the program at large. I look forward to the monthly newsletter continuing under a new byline, as we elect a new Board this month to fill positions being vacated by our departing "Class of 2015" members.

Thanks for staying engaged,

Mark Stenroos
