First Quarter Successes & Announcements

  

2014 has already proved to be a prosperous year for economic diversification with 37 relocations, expansions and new openings. These companies represent a myriad of industry sectors ranging from healthcare software to auto parts manufacturing creating over 3,000 jobs. 

 

 

Highlights from the first quarter of 2014 include:

  • athenahealth is creating over 600 new R&D/software development jobs in Austin
  • NASDAQ OMX to Open New Office in Austin
  • Websense, Inc., has selected the city of Austin for its new corporate headquarters
  • Epicor Software Corp. announced an expansion of its Austin operations
  • Australia's Atlassian Opening Second North American Office in Austin
  • Dropbox will grow its Austin operations from 30 to 200 in Downtown Austin
  • Germany-based Ottobock is relocating the company's North American headquarters from Minnesota to Austin.

PLACEIn the first quarter, Chamber staff attended critical high-level meetings in both Asia and Europe in efforts to continue growing Austin into a global city for business and visitors alike. Highlights from these trips include: traveling to Tokyo, Japan to begin conversations around securing a nonstop Transpacific route; Economic Development recruitment staff participating in the Texas One Europe Mission to Dublin, Ireland; and several meetings in London one month after the launch on the nonstop Austin/Heathrow BA flight, the signing of Austin-Hackney Sister Cities Agreement, and the Hackney House venue and programming during SXSW. 

 

Looking ahead, the Chamber is embarking on two back-to-back Corporate Recruitment Mission Trips to California. The delegations are comprised of Lead Opportunity Austin Investors, regional economic development officials and Chamber staff. The trips are part of Opportunity Austin's recruitment strategy to continue growth in Central Texas by developing new contacts with prospective companies and enriching relationships with the headquarters of the region's existing companies.
