Non-Compliant Vs. Counterfeit - Is there a difference?
Sometimes these terms are used interchangeably and it can get confusing. Definitions can be very important, so to make our communications clearer we have now defined the 3 most common deceptive marketing practices we've encountered and posted them on the website.

Whether non-compliant or counterfeit, what these cables have in common is that they should all be avoided.

 


Federal Government Tightens Up Against Counterfeits
Under what is known as Section 818, the DoD is proposing to revise the DFARS (Defense Acquisition Regulation Supplement). The intent of Section 818 is to hold contractors responsible for detecting and avoiding the use or inclusion of counterfeit electronic parts or suspect counterfeit electronic parts. 

Cable appears to be be included in the definition of electronic part: "an integrated circuit, a discrete electronic component (including, but not limited to, a transistor, capacitor, resister, or diode), or a circuit assembly".   View Section in Federal Register

 

 ...and Massachusetts Follows Suit in Prosecution of a Counterfeit Perpetrator

A Massachusetts man pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit military goods. He faces up to 46 months in prison when he will be sentenced to a federal penitentiary after confessing to selling counterfeit semiconductors to the US Naval Submarine Base in Connecticut.  Read more
