Schedule Reminder:
The Department of Solid Waste Management's facilities will be closed on Monday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday and there will be no residential recycling collection that day.
All household recycling pickups for the remainder of the holiday week will shift one day later than the usual schedule.

With summer vacations and busy weekends, it's easy to forget which week to set your recycling cart out at the curb. Then there are holiday slides, such as the weeks of Independence Day and Labor Day, when your collection day may actually shift. And what happens if a severe storm or summer road  project prohibits access to your street, how will you know if your recycling collection is affected? There's an easy way to keep track of it all!



Visit our website, www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/recycle to sign up for reminders and emergency notifications, and you'll never be left wondering again!


Use this link on our website to view and print your recycling schedule as well as sign up for customized reminder's for your street's recycling day. 



Use this link on our website to sign up for notifications when storms or road closures affect your recycling. You can also say up-to-date on special events such as Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off days. 




Drop-Off Center for Recycling at 9031 Reichs Ford Road, Frederick

This summer, take a road trip to our facility!  From old appliances to worn out toys...many things  that are not accepted in your big, blue cart can be recycled at our site instead.



Old metal fans, bicycles, barbecue grills, lawn mowers and more...
If it doesn't make it through the dog days of summer, bring it to us! Metal objects such as these can be brought to our drop-off site for free recycling.  Just make sure that any items that once have contained liquids such as fuel or oil are now empty.



Kiddie pool sprung a leak? 
Large, hard plastic items, such as wading pools, plastic play houses, picnic coolers and patio chairs, can be placed in the  drop-off center's recycling dumpster designated for Bulky Rigid Plastics. (Exceptions include: Vinyl or PVC materials, rubber and items with fabric or electronics attached.)  


Don't lose your cool... 
If your air conditioner melts down, bring it to us for recycling! Don't worry about appliances that contain freon- it will get removed and properly disposed after you drop off your AC unit, water cooler, refrigerator or other appliance at our site.  


Get tuned up and go green! 
If you're getting ready for a road trip, don't forget that motor oil and filters, antifreeze, and car batteries are all recyclable at our site too! 


Answer to the Pop Quiz: According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the national recycling rate is 34%. As reported by the Maryland Department of the Environment, Frederick County's recycling rate, as of 2014, is 50%! Way to go!
