Local Businesses Receive Awards
The Frederick County Waste Reduction and Recycling Award is an annual program that recognizes innovative steps taken by local organizations in order to reduce their impact on the waste stream. Composting, bulk purchasing, equipment reuse, paper reduction and recycling are just a few of the strategies local business leaders are using to go green.
The 2014 winners are:
- e-End- In addition to obtaining industry environmental certifications (R2 and ISO 14001) for their business practices, staff prioritize reuse and recycling of all materials possible.
- Frederick Veterinary Center, LLC - Recycling is available in all areas of the practice, including materials beyond the basics, such as used medical equipment, shelving and fluorescent lighting.
- Hallowood Retreat Center - Food waste is composted on site, recycled-content products are sought, recycling is standard and guests are encouraged to join in efforts to help make the center "greener."
- NaturaLawn of America, Inc. - A member of the Maryland Green Registry, "reduce, reuse and recycle" strategies are prioritized, from retail products sold in recycled-content packaging, to staff initiatives to reduce lunchroom waste and recycle.
- Second Chances Garage, Inc.,- A wide variety of materials are collected and processed separately for recycling, such as scrap metals, tires, antifreeze and motor oil. All materials that can be are reused. Donated vehicles are given new life through repair and refurbishment.
We extend our thanks to these local businesses for their leadership in sustainable, integrated waste management practices. To read more about this award program, please visit our business recycling website or call 301-600-2890.
