Empty It. Cap it. Recycle It. Being Green Was Never So Easy!
Peanut butter jars. Salad dressing bottles. Mayonnaise containers. Many folks don't want to recycle certain items because the product residues are sticky, smelly or difficult to clean. Well, we have good news:
you don't have to clean them. That's right, save water, soap and time and get on with the recycling!
We want empty containers for recycling, and we want the caps too. So, when you've used up the peanut butter, simply place the lid back on the jar and recycle it. Same story for water and soda bottles, milk jugs, jelly jars and all other containers with lids. Empty it, cap it and recycle it! It's easy!
Now, don't get us wrong - rinsing containers
is good (thanks!), just not required. While your tubs, bottles and jars must be
empty, we'd rather have them a little bit soiled than not get them at all. If you want to go the extra mile and clean your containers, well, that makes you an all-star recycler.
We want the caps because most are now recyclable. Years ago manufacturers did not want lids back for recycling, but technologies have changed and these materials can now be reclaimed. The trick is, it's easier to collect them when they are still attached to a container- small, loose objects like bottle caps tend to be sifted out as trash during the recycling sorting process. But if they are still on container, they can be collected, baled and sold for recycling! Want to see how it's done? Check out this
video- then go recycle something!

Over-filling a recycling cart makes it prone to scattering recyclables about the neighborhood, and no one wants to have to fetch wind-blown bottles and bags from their yard. Try not to fill your cart to the brim. First, make sure you're recycling the right things. Next, try to flatten containers. Then, if your household avidly recycles, we're happy to provide you with an larger 95-gallon recycling cart. Visit www.LearnMoreRecycleBetter.org to up-size today! |
