Social Media 101: Introduction to Facebook & Twitter - Session I

Both social media sessions will be led by Leif Hansen, a nationally recognized group facilitator, trainer & teacher. Session I will provide an overview of Facebook and Twitter, widely seen as the two most popular social media channels world-wide. The audience will learn how to use both to communicate with family and friends, as well as learn how to receive up-to-date individualized news and information.

Session II will focus on how to set up and personalize your accounts and develop a business presence. This will be a hands-on class, so feel free to bring your laptop or mobile device. Students can attend Session I, Session II or both.
Re-Tooling Careers

This workshop features Peter Quinn and Carol Ann Laase. Peter is a former executive director of the Northwest Entrepreneur Network, where he assisted early stage start-ups to develop their business and seek funding. He has led many technology and communications companies, from Ireland to Seattle. Currently, he is the executive director of EDC Team Jefferson and CEO of Quimper Mercantile Company. He is also the co-owner, with his wife, Anna, of The Writers' Workshoppe in Port Townsend. Carol Ann Laase, Administrative Systems Manager for Olympic Area Agency on Aging, also manages the Senior Community Services Employment Program, which provides re-employment training to people 55+ who meet low-income and other guidelines. Participants receive paid on-the-job training, as well as other supports, in this time-limited program. All training is in not-for-profit entities, which are reimbursed for wages as they provide current experience and supervision. She trained initially as a secondary education teacher, and has experience in the retail, accounting, legal and public fields.

This workshop features Kenna Eaton and Collin Brown. Kenna is the general manager of the Port Townsend Food Co-op. Prior to coming here, she worked for a co-op in Moscow, Idaho, the last twenty of her thirty years there as general manager. The Co-op is a strong institution which has benefitted our community for 40 years in so many ways. With 93 employees and close to 12 million a year in sales, the Co-op sees itself as the 'curators' of local in our community and as 'growing with purpose'. Collin Brown is a certified life coach who brings a broad range of teaching, business and counseling skills to his practice, where he helps clients navigate personal and professional transitions. He previously was the director of a graduate program at Harvard University; owned and managed a private post-secondary school in California; and created the Wildwood Conservation Foundation, a non-profit that operates a 200-acre retreat center in the California redwoods. He is a founding board member and treasurer of KPTZ, Port Townsend's community radio station.
