Grand Bahamas Island has something
for everyone

Grand Bahama Island is one of the most popular, family friendly islands in The Bahamas, boasting the right mix of relaxation and soft adventure.

Located just 55 miles east of Florida, Grand Bahama Island is home to miles of beautiful beaches, nature preserves and emerald-green seas.

Its variety of cultural experiences and ecological wonders makes Grand Bahama Island ideal for nature-based activity including kayaking, dolphin experiences, airboat eco-adventures, jeep safaris, scuba diving and bike tours.
For a truly authentic Bahamian experience, try visiting local fish fries at Smiths Point, nighttime cultural celebrations at Count Basie Square and seasonal Junkanoo performances.

bahamas dive With calm, turquoise waters and soft, powdery sand, it's no surprise when our beaches are recognized as some of the best in the world. Perhaps the most famous is Treasure Cay Beach in The Abacos. It was recently voted as one of the best in the region by Caribbean Travel & Life. Others receiving recognition are Gold Rock Beach on Grand Bahama Island, Cape Santa Maria Beach on Long Island and Harbour Island Beach. Our shores are so beautiful, that most of the time pictures don't do them any justice. You have to visit to witness just how stunning they actually are.

Grand Bahama Island's sprawling reef-protected shoreline and cays are covered with powdery white-sand beaches. Some 90 miles of the southern shore is white-sand beach, punctuated by a number of waterways and more than 50 miles of that is secluded.

bahamas horseback riding Today, more and more people are rediscovering the simple joys of snorkeling and free diving, and it's hard to think of any destination more capable of satisfying everyone, from the casual snorkeler to the serious free diver, than The Bahamas. The reasons are numerous. Let's start with the very quality of the water. An unmatched clarity combines with a striking spectrum of blues to create a highly attractive picture. The shallows sparkle with aquamarine and azure highlights bouncing off the white sand bottom. This gorgeous water is a shining blanket overlaying thousands of square miles of lush coral reefs. Virtually every professional dive operator offers dedicated snorkeling trips, so the questions come down to these: What style of snorkel adventures do you want, and where do you want to go? In The Bahamas, every single island is surrounded by shallow reefs, many of which reach to within a few feet of the surface. Farther out, this same theme continues, with tens of thousands of shallow water sites on the banks peppered with coral heads and reefs.

Junkanoo is an important Bahamian cultural event that recognizes a special time in the history of The Islands of The Bahamas. During the pre-Emancipation era, slaves created Junkanoo to celebrate their three (3) days off each year - December 25th and 26th and January 1st. Our annual Junkanoo parades feature a vibrant display of flamboyant handmade costumes, indigenous music and special themes. The Boxing Day and New Year's parades are held at East Mall Drive on December 26th and January 1st; and, The Junkanoo Summer Festival is held at Taino Beach from mid-July to mid-August.

Fish Fry...Enjoy delicious fried fish, potato bread, conch salad and many more Bahamian dishes every Wednesday at Smith's Point. This event starts at 6:30 in the evening.bahamas lighthouse

Crab Fest...Enjoy delicious native crab, the popular Bahamian drink gully wash, at the Garden Café (formerly the Churchill Pub). This is held every Friday at 5 p.m.

Grand Bahama Regatta...Amateur captains from all over the world take on nature and each other in an exciting sailing competition. Whether you are a spectator or participant, our annual regatta has something for everyone - great Bahamian food, sweet island music and a spectacular show. Held June 19 - 21.
