Twitter @Adopt_Colorado

Check us out at http://www.twitter.com/Adopt_Colorado  and follow us!  You'll get up to the minute news on classes, resources, and adoption issues.

Greetings!

For some of you, school has already started.  The rest of us will be following shortly.

For those of you with kids who will be going to a new school (new for them) this year, please provide your child with a little extra love and support as they figure out this new world.

I was an "Air Force brat."  We moved, not a lot, but enough.  I also lived on Air Force bases and went to school on the base until 8th grade, so even though I might not have been moving that year, my friends were.  There was something about me moving, or them moving, and my introvert personality that made making new friends almost impossible for me.  The start of every new school year was filled with dread...and loneliness.

So if your kiddo is starting a new school or ended the last school year without friends, know just how hard this is for them.  Check with the school social worker and see if there are programs your child can join that might help.  Make an effort to meet other parents and set up play dates.  Help in the classroom if you can.  And most importantly, talk to your child about what they're experiencing and ask them how you can help.

Happy school days!            school-group.jpg

K. Colleen Tarket, COCAF Board of Directors
Volunteers Needed

COCAF, just like you, needs to bring in money to pay the bills.  So we're teaming with SOAR Youth & Adult Choir, to have an auction to try and raise some much needed funds (for some reason, the phone company demands to be paid monthly!!!).

But an auction takes time and donations.  So we're asking you to help.  If you can help by going to businesses and asking for donations for the auction, please let me know.  If you have a cabin or condo that you'd be willing to give up for a long weekend, that would be awesome, too!  Or if you have contacts with any local entertainment venues, we could use that information, too.  We also need people who can help set up the auction and clean up afterwards.  The auction is currently slated for mid-October.

If you can help with any of these tasks, please email me with your name and contact information, and what you're willing to do to help at [email protected].

Thank you in advance for supporting COCAF!

Deborah Cave, Executive Director

How do get a FUP voucher for housing for a young adult?

We frequently get requests about FUP vouchers.  If someone between the ages of 18-21 needs housing, click here to go to the Colorado FUP information.

CDHS Seeks Input

The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) is conducting a series of town hall meetings to solicit feedback, comments, and suggestions to help inform the direction of the department and priorities for the coming year.

COCAF urges our adoptive/kinship/foster families to attend these meetings and ask questions about the services you receive (or those you need, but aren't receiving!).

Voice for Adoption Portrait Project
From Voice for Adoption

Voice for Adoption (VFA) is once again providing an opportunity for members of Congress to learn from adopted children and their families. Through our annual project we give policy makers an opportunity to both celebrate and engage with families who have formed their families through domestic foster care adoption. This Capitol Hill awareness project seeks to inform policymakers and their staff about how adoption has touched the lives of their constituents.

Help VFA find adoptive families to participate! VFA is looking for families who have adopted from foster care. The family portraits will be displayed in the Washington, DC office of their member of Congress. Each participating family will receive a copy of our Adoptive Family Portrait Project booklet that features the families and Members of Congress that are involved. Interested families should click here to complete a participation interest form.
