Greetings!
COCAF is proud to announce Deborah Cave has been elected President of the Board of Directors. Deborah will maintain her position as Executive Director as well. We think this move will position COCAF to become a stronger advocacy organization. Please join us in congratulating Deborah!
February is the month of love...or at least that's what the retailers want us to think! Those of us with adopted children may have more than we can possibly get done...school projects, school parties, kids' appointments...not to mention work and house work. But sometimes we get so wrapped up in the things we "need" to do, that we forget that we need to nurture our relationship with our significant other. So even if you have high-needs children, make February the month that you focus extra attention on your SO. Make that person feel your love, because when things go wrong (and they will from time to time), your SO is the person who will be there with you to pick up the pieces.
Happy February and Valentine's Day!
Colleen Tarket, COCAF Secretary/Treasurer

Camp Teen Fundango 2013
The weekend of June 28 - June 30, 2013, Kids at Heart will have its first Camp Teen Fundango. This camp is a 3-day weekend of camping for adoptive, foster, and kinship teens ages 10-16. The weekend will be held at a primitive camp 45 minutes from Fort Collins; an off-the grid, pristine playground where kids discover both the natural world and their own innate skills and confidences. It's packed full of adventures and activities that engage the kids in skill-building, learning, reflection, and growth. Kids at Heart has partnered with EDUCO Leadership Adventures for this adventure weekend. Teens will be challenged to step outside their comfort zone, connect with new and unexpected friends, and discover their sense of self and leadership. Details are being finalized, and will be available at the Kids at Heart website. Click here to go to their website. |

RTC Study Participants Needed
You are invited to participate in a study titled Residential Treatment and Adoption: The Adoptive Parent Perspective. This study is designed to explore the experience of adoptive parents who have placed an adopted child in a residential treatment center (RTC). The aim of the study is to identify key strategies that RTC professionals can use to support and assist adoptive families as they go through the process of placing an adoptive child in residential. An outline for an adoption competent training curriculum for RTC professionals will be developed upon completion of data collection and analysis.
Dr. Michele D. Hanna, Associate Professor at the University of Denver, Graduate School of Social Work, is conducting the study. In addition, Ms. Diane Mulligan of the Children's Help and Assistance for Residential Treatment (CHART) will serve as subject matter expert and a member of the research team for this project. More information about Ms. Mulligan and CHART is available online at http://www.chartrtc.org/
Participation in this study will take approximately 3-4 hours of your time. Participation involves the following:
Completion of a demographic survey (5-10 minutes)
Participation in an in-depth interview about your experience (average 2 hours)
Review of the curriculum outline and completion of feedback survey (30-45 minutes)
Each participating family will receive a $25 gift card to either Wal-Mart or Target (your choice) upon completion of the interview.
Please take the time to read the consent form. You may contact Dr. Michele Hanna at [email protected] or 303.871.3444 if you have any questions about the consent form or the project. You may also contact Ms. Mulligan at [email protected] if you have any questions about the project.
If you are interested in participating, please go online to http://gssw.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6YJhlG4teZRshsF to begin.
You may also go to the CHART website and access the link there. You will be asked to indicate your understanding of the consent prior to completing the demographic survey. The original consent form with your signature(s) will be collected at the time of your interview. |
