Greetings!
I think that the most significant aspect of our partnership with you as secondary educators of your students is communication. To that end, I want to share with you some of the things we've accomplished this summer as well as some of the exciting things we're planning for the upcoming year. I want to welcome our new teachers: Mr. Jon Torres is new to our Math Department and is teaching Geometry/Geometry Honors; Mrs. Jeanine Kemmer, who will be teaching 9th grade English Honors, 10th grade English, and one section of Old Testament/Church History. I would also like to welcome Mr. Robert Martin who will be teaching Physics and Physical Science. Mr. Reilly Campbell joins us this year as our World History, Honors World History, and AP World History teacher. Mr. Campbell is also our new Head Boys' Basketball coach. As we begin another school year, I have to say again how proud I am of the strong academic program we have here at BJS and the strong Catholic identity we display. These have earned us a great and respected reputation throughout the community. I am continually told that people are impressed with what we have to offer at BJS, but mostly that they are impressed with who we are. I am looking forward to another great year at BJS and hope you are, too. I will host four "Coffee with the Principal" meetings, one each quarter, so I can continue to hear about the good things happening and understand how things can be even better. Deacon David Yazdiya

Campus Ministry
This summer, Campus Ministry offered students several opportunities to serve the community. Many of our students spent time helping those in need at the St. Francis Soup kitchen in downtown Jacksonville. Every student at BJS is required to give 25 hours of Christian Service to their community each year. There are many ways to serve others, and if you need suggestions contact our Campus Minister, Ms. Joy Pichardo at joypichardo@bishopsnyder.org
AGAPE is our new service club which combines the efforts of Interact Club and St. Vincent de Paul Club. The two distinct committees will not lose their identity, but the hope is that more students will join together on such projects as Ronald McDonald House, Snyder Buddies, the Angel Tree and many more! Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 10th at 7:30 in the cafetorium. Hope to see you there!
Media Center Students can use the library before and after school as well as during 2nd or 3rd lunch periods. All visits to the library require a pass. In addition to copies of the required summer reading lists Mrs. Di Benedetto has added supplemental reading titles used in class. Stop by the library and browse the shelves. You will find a wide variety of books that will interest you. If there is a title you would like added, please see Mrs. Di Benedetto.
Students in the Portfolio art class will participate in the "memory project" this year. They will be drawing/painting portraits of orphans in Cambodia which will be mailed to the children in January. The idea is that these children will never have an image of themselves and through art, we can capture a memory of their childhood. The portfolio students are excited about this unique project which will give them an opportunity to share their talents overseas.
ProNiņo Project
The ProNiņo project will begin in September. Spanish Honor students are helping the street children of Honduras who are the poorest of the poor. Our students will offer a snack cart several times a week, for students to be able to purchase healthy snacks after school and at lunch. Last year, in just 7 weeks, we were able to donate $300 and over $600 in donated backpacks, clothing, school supplies and toys. Our donations will help a boys' home with over 75 boys ages 5-18, and a new girls home for ages 7-13. We are looking for new or used backpacks, shoes, dental hygiene products, t-shirts, and school supplies. In doing these things, we are comforting the sorrowful, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, feeding the hungry, and so much more. Email Mrs. Valdes if you would like to help.
