PROFINET of Things Special Issue - Aug 2016
|
Welcome to this special issue, dedicated to Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
In November 2015 we reported that PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) and OPC Foundation have been working cooperatively for years and that this cooperation was being intensified in order to systematically continue the integration of OPC UA into the system architecture of PROFINET.
It is now clear that the service-oriented architecture of OPC UA (Unified Architecture) is to be a main building block for the development of Industrie 4.0 (see ImplementationStrategy Industrie 4.0) and by extension, IIoT. OPC UA becomes the link for the non-deterministic communication between devices such as operator stations via the controller level or for production data from devices to corporate IT. PROFINET takes over the transmission of deterministic real-time data and control-relevant acyclic data in automation systems. PROFINET and OPC UA are therefore already a perfect complement to one another today because PROFINET allows open communication based on TCP/IP in parallel without additional expense.
This issue of PROFINEWS UK brings news of relevant Certified Training and other opportunities to learn about these technologies, in depth, here in the UK. And it all starts with understanding The PROFINET of Things ...

What, exactly, is The PROFINET of THINGS?
|
|
By providing deterministic control, data access, and uptime in an open platform, PROFINET is foundational to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industrie 4.0.
But what is the relationship between the Industrial Internet of Things, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Industrie 4.0?

CERTIFIED PROFINET TRAINING - Reading and Manchester
|
|
PI UK supports certified PROFINET training run by our two PITCs, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Verwer Training & Consultancy Ltd (VTC). Both organisations are authorised by PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) to deliver PI's certified courses leading to internationally-recognised accreditation as Certified PROFINET Engineers or Installers.

|
Certified PROFINET Installer
An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include industrial ethernet installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFINET networks and will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.
Next courses:
Oct 17, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Nov 28, Location: Reading, Provider: VTC
|
|
Certified PROFINET Engineer
This training course provides a detailed technical knowledge of the PROFINET technology and the advantages it offers your automation and production processes. At the end of the training there will be a theory exam. Participants who pass get the title Certified PROFINET Engineer and are awarded an official certificate. Successful participants will have the confidence to evaluate PROFINET as a solution for their automation requirements and be able to design a proper application.
Next courses:
Oct 17, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Nov 30, Location: Reading, Provider: VTC

CERTIFIED OPC TRAINING - London and Manchester
|
|
Your chance to get Certified as an OPC Professional
With OPC UA (Unified Architecture) now specified alongside PROFINET and IO-Link as a main building block for Industrie 4.0, the need for certified OPC training is even more essential for anyone involved in the development, implementation and operation of systems in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
If you would like to learn about OPC UA and get Certified as an OPC Professional, during October there will be an opportunity for hands-on Certified OPC Professional training provided by the highly respected, vendor-independent OPC Training Institute.
The training provides an in-depth study of OPC technology, its DCOM backbone, required security settings, and a lot of practical hands-on troubleshooting techniques and exercises. It is presented as 4 separate modules over the course of a week, each lasting 12 hours. Subject to ability and availability, students can opt to take 1 or more of the modules.
Next courses:
Oct 24 - 28, Locations: Manchester or London
*** Also available as "Remote" training via internet ***

Practical Aspects of PROFINET, IO-Link and IIoT - Free Seminar
|
|
Manchester, 9th November
Back by popular demand, this free-to-attend seminar addresses the key practical issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and process industry applications and of course, Industrie 4.0 and The Industrial Internet of Things.
Covering the use of PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link in key application areas such as electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management, pulp & paper, chemical, utilities, pharmaceutical, packaging and printing, it focuses on the practical aspects of advanced digital communications from system design and safety considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding.

Industrie 4.0 and IIoT for Process Automation

New White Paper shows the way with PROFINET and PROFIBUS PA ...
The chemical industry is well acquainted with networks. Many locations operate in close raw material and energy networks. This is now to be extended to the data level - or at least the measured value level. For it is apparent that analog measured value transmission in chemical plants is often no longer adequate for future tasks. For this reason, the process industry is now openly discussing the topic of Industry 4.0 and the use of Ethernet technologies.
