Welcome to the latest issue of PROFINEWS UK, bringing you the latest news of upcoming PROFIBUS, PROFINET, IO-Link and associated activities in the UK.

This issue features yet more opportunities to learn about these amazing technologies. Read on to find out more about training opportunities and membership in 2016 ...

Latest PROFINET, PROFIBUS and IO-Link Node Count Data released
PROFINET Node Count 2015
Figures show that in 2015 the trend of strong growth for PROFINET and PROFIsafe continued while PROFIBUS maintained steady growth.

There were 2.8 million new PROFIBUS nodes in the market in 2015. This increased the number of installed PROFIBUS devices to over 53.7 million. Of these, nearly 10 million are incorporated in process automation plants. With a growth rate of newly added nodes of over 33%, the number of PROFINET devices installed now stands at over 12.8 million. Particularly pleasing was the strong growth rate of PROFIsafe of 32%, bringing the total number of installed devices now to 5.4 million.

This year for the first time IO-Link is included in the study, showing strong growth to around 3.6 million by the end of 2015.

PROFINET, PROFIBUS and IIoT in Process - Free Seminar
Andy Smith presents at PA Seminar
Manchester, 29th June

This highly practical seminar addresses the key issues arising from the use of digital fieldbus communications technologies in process and hybrid industries. Covering the use of PROFIBUS and PROFINET in key application areas such as Pulp & Paper, Chemical, Utilities, Pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas today, it focuses on the practical aspects of using PROFIBUS and PROFINET in process industry applications from system design and hazardous area considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding.

PROFINET - Design and Implementation of Field Devices
This new guideline is packed with advice and recommendations for design and implementation of PROFINET field devices. It addresses mechanics, hardware, software, project management, product management as well as marketing and highlights what is important. It also tells you where you can find additional details on relevant subjects. It is recommended reading for everyone involved in the development process - no matter whether they work in different departments or whether all functions are executed in a multi-discipline role.

With around 10 million devices installed by the end of 2014, PROFINET has established itself as the leading Industrial Ethernet standard on the market. Due to trends such as Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things, PROFINET will continue to gain in importance. It is essential for device manufacturers to deal with the technology.

If you want to implement PROFINET on your products, this new guideline is essential reading.

CERTIFIED PROFIBUS AND PROFINET TRAINING COURSES
Certified Products & People Logo
PI UK supports certified training run by our two PITCs, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Verwer Training & Consultancy Ltd (VTC). Both organisations are authorised by PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) to deliver PI's certified courses leading to internationally-recognised accreditation as Certified PROFIBUS or PROFINET Engineers or Installers.

Certified PROFIBUS Installer
An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include fieldbus installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFIBUS networks including DP, PA and optical fibre technology. Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

Next courses:
Jul 11, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Sept 19, Location: Manchester, Provider: VTC
PROFIBUS Commissioning & Maintenance Course
A one-day course designed as an add-on to the Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course, covering the practical techniques of faultfinding on "operational" PROFIBUS networks. Techniques taught on the course include the use of a modern PROFIBUS analyser, Class 1 and Class 2 master functions (engineering tool) to diagnose network faults, device faults and I/O problems. Students also learn how to diagnose and accurately locate cable, connection and device faults.
Certified PROFIBUS System Designer
This course is aimed at anyone who is dealing with the design, specification or procurement of modern automation and control systems at the engineering or technical level.  The course is also suitable for device manufacturers, system integrators and technical sales/marketing people who want to know the best way to put systems together. The course is aimed at the professional engineer level and a basic familiarity with control system terminology and the ability to perform simple engineering calculations is assumed.

Next courses:
May 11, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Oct 25, Location: Manchester, Provider: VTC
Certified PROFIBUS Engineer Course
This is an in-depth course covering PROFIBUS DP and PA network operation, design, commissioning and live fault-finding. The course covers basic cyclic data exchange (so-called DP-V0) and DP-V1 extensions that are used in PA devices and more complex DP devices. Most of the course is involved with understanding and interpreting the various telegrams that pass between devices. It is a world-wide recognised training program, standardised by PROFIBUS International.  The Certified PROFIBUS Installer and the Commissioning & Maintenance courses are essential pre-requisites to attending this course.

Certified PROFINET Installer
An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include industrial ethernet installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFINET networks and will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

Next courses:
May 16, Location: Reading, Provider: VTC
Oct 17, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Certified PROFINET Engineer
This training course provides a detailed technical knowledge of the PROFINET technology and the advantages it offers your automation and production processes. At the end of the training there will be a theory exam. Participants who pass get the title Certified PROFINET Engineer and are awarded an official certificate. Successful participants will have the confidence to evaluate PROFINET as a solution for their automation requirements and be able to design a proper application.
